Chrominance-luminance Signal Separation Patents (Class 348/663)
  • Patent number: 7151574
Abstract: A device and method are provided for implementing digital baseband separation of composite video signals with reduced memory requirements. The method and device require that only the composite signal be stored in a large delay element. Multiple quadrature demodulators are employed to generate multiple delayed complex baseband signals. Therefore, no large complex baseband delay element is required.

Abstract: A hardware-based circuitry for digital processing for color saturation control circuitry, brightness control circuitry, contrast control circuitry, and color hue control circuitry, some or all of which can be added to the luminance/chrominance (Y/C) signals to the red green blue (RGB) digital YCbCr-to-RGB conversion circuitry that is required by devices such as an LCoS display device. (these controls can also be used without the Y/C-to-RGB conversion surrounding. Important is the fact that the signals for control be in Y/C domain) A digital video signal from the source in the Y/C (luminance/chrominance) domain is fed into processing circuitry, where the C (chrominance) component is split into Cb and Cr subcomponents. Digital YCbCr-to-RGB conversion circuitry transforms the Y/C signals to RGB domain, required by, for example, the LCoS display device.

Abstract: An image signal processing device of the present invention includes an RGB-YC conversion for converting color component signals output from a CCD (Charge Coupled Device) image sensor to luminance signals and components thereof lying in a high frequency range. The luminance signals and their components lying in a high frequency range are fed to a first, a second and a third low pass filter (LPF), respectively. Luminance signals output from a third LPF are fed to an adder while components lying in a high frequency range are fed from the first LPF to a selector. Further, the components output from the second LPF are fed to the selector via a resolution correcting section. The selector selects either one of the two different kinds of components input thereto. The adder adds the luminance signals output from the third LPF and the components selected by the selector and thereby outputs second luminance signals.

Abstract: A simulated burst gate signal and a video synchronization key are generated. A video decoder generates a horizontal sync pulse which is programmed to envelop a color burst, thereby simulating a burst gate signal. The offset to the horizontal sync pulse due to simulating a burst gate signal may be compensated at a video memory subsystem receiving the horizontal sync signal, in order to determine when active pixels are provided by the video decoder. Alternatively, counter circuitry external to the video decoder may be used to generate a simulated burst gate signal by counting the number of pixel clock cycles between the horizontal sync pulse and the color burst. Unlike a burst gate signal generated within a video decoder for use with color separation circuitry in the video decoder, a simulated burst gate signal allows for use of color separation circuitry external to the video decoder. Detecting a color burst using external color separation circuitry is thus also disclosed.

Two blocks of 8-bit luminance data and one block of 8-bit color difference data are repeatedly output from a compressing/expanding unit in the above order and are supplied to a buffer memory. Two blocks of 16-bit data to be written are generated corresponding to the two blocks of 8-bit luminance data and one block of 8-bit color difference data, are sequentially supplied from the buffer memory to a frame memory in units of block and are written to the frame memory. Each of luminance data and color difference data is not written to the frame memory in units of block but 16-bit data to be written composed of these luminance data and color difference data is written to the frame memory in units of block. The number of blocks written to the frame memory can be reduced and total time required for switching an address in the direction of lines can be reduced.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus of decoding a television broadcasting signal are disclosed. In one embodiment, an improved video decoder converts the video signal into a digitized video signal. The improved video decoder then separates luminance information and chrominance information of the digitized video signal in a dimension that has a constancy value below a predetermined threshold level. Lastly, the improved video decoder optionally converts the separated luminance information and chrominance information into an output format that conforms to input requirements of the NTSC/PAL television.

Abstract: Techniques for enhancing edges in video signals while reducing the amounts of undershoots and overshoots. A video signal is processed to generate a first signal indicative of detected edges in the video signal. The first signal can be generated by lowpass filtering the video signal to generate a lowpass signal and subtracting the lowpass signal from a luminance signal that has been extracted from the video signal. The first signal is then processed with a “non-linear” transfer function to generate a second signal having enhanced edges. The second signal is used as the correction or enhancement signal, and is added to the lowpass signal to provide an output signal having enhanced edges with reduced or minimal amounts of undershoots and overshoots.

Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for YC separation and three-line correlation detection with high accuracy, which allow the YC separator to generate reliable Y signals. The correlation detecting apparatus includes a sub-correlation detector. The detector checks input signals for the presence or absence of vertical correlation, and provides the signals with a judgment “high-correlation exists” or “otherwise”. According to the judgment, the correlation detecting apparatus changes the process; i) when accepted the judgment “high-correlation exists”, the apparatus determines the judgment to be reliable and adopts it as the output, ii) when accepted “otherwise”, the apparatus increases its detecting accuracy and provides the signals with multi-leveled outputs according to the correlation levels. In this way, the main apparatus switches the detecting mode according to the result from sub-correlation detector, with the detecting accuracy greatly improved.

Abstract: In a color separator circuit, edge detection filters detect an edge encountered in the horizontal direction. When the image signals corresponding to the thus detected edge are processed, selector circuits 12a to 12c select outputs from small-tap-number color separation filters 8a to 8c and 10a to 10c, respectively. When the image signals corresponding to the remaining portion other than the edge are processed, the selector circuits 12a to 12c select outputs from large-tap-number color separation filters 9a to 9c and 11a to 11c, respectively. A ratio calculator circuit 16 calculates, from the luminance signals fed from adder circuits 13a to 13c, the value by which a multiplier circuit 18 performs multiplication. The multiplier circuit 18 multiplies, by this value calculated by the ratio calculator circuit 16, the color separation signals added together by an adder circuit 17 so that, of all the color separation signals of which there are two kinds, those of one kind are vertically interpolated.

Abstract: A simplified Y/C separation circuit in which, a plurality of luminance signals are calculated for the subject pixel based on an NTSC signal of the subject pixel and NTSC signals of pixels that are close to the subject pixel spatially or temporally. Correlations between the plurality of luminance signals are obtained in a difference circuit and a comparison circuit. In a classification circuit, classification is performed, that is, the subject pixel is classified as belonging to a certain class, based on the correlations between the plurality of luminance signals. Prediction coefficients corresponding to the class of the subject pixel are read out from a prediction coefficients memory section. The RGB luminance signals of the subject pixel are then determined by calculating prescribed linear first-order formulae.

Abstract: A VGA (or other component video signal) output, e.g. from a computer or DVD player, is subject to protection so it is viewable on a VGA monitor. If the component video signal is converted to composite video (e.g. television) the resulting television picture is of substantially degraded quality, thereby inhibiting viewing and/or copying. This protects for instance copyrighted material in the VGA format from unauthorized use. The protection modifies the horizontal or vertical synchronization signals in the VGA video in such a way that there is no adverse affect on a typical VGA monitor. Most or all VGA to television converters and/or television sets and VCR's suffer from loss of synchronization, resulting in an unviewable picture. Methods and apparatuses for defeating this copy protection are provided herein.
