Abstract: An implementation provides a transmitter that separates sequential portions of data in a first set of data by time intervals allowing a power saving mode (1005). The transmitter transmits the sequential portions of data separated by respective time intervals having lengths configured to allow a receiver to enter and exit a power saving mode between receiving sequentially transmitted portions of data from the first set of data (1010). The transmitter separates sequential portions of data in a second set by time intervals that are not of sufficient length to allow a receiver to enter and exit a power saving mode during the time intervals (1015). The second set of data is then transmitted (1020).

Abstract: A transmitter 14, which receives an input video signal VS_IN and an input audio signal AS_IN from an MPEG decoder 17, includes therein a dummy signal production circuit 11 and a selection circuit 12. The dummy signal production circuit 11 produces a dummy video signal VS_D having a higher resolution than that of the input video signal VS_IN. The selection circuit 12 outputs one of the input video signal VS_IN and the dummy video signal VS_D as a selected video signal VS to a video/audio transmitter circuit 13, based on a control signal CS input based on an amount of information of the input audio signal AS_IN. The video/audio transmitter circuit 13 multiplexes the input audio signal AS_IN with the selected video signal VS to produce and transmit a video/audio signal VAS. Thus, irrespective of the format of the video signal, an audio signal having a high sample rate or a multi-channel audio signal can be transmitted while being multiplexed with the video signal.

The system includes a transmitter and a receiver tandem coupled together over twisted pair cable. Each video component is mixed with a reference signal in the transmitter and driven differentially onto the twisted pair cable. Upon detection of a signal in the twisted pair cable, the receiver adjusts its internal gains until the known characteristic of the reference signal is achieved. The receiver than automatically adjusts the skew & DC offset. Thus, the receiver is able to automatically measure the degradation in video quality and appropriately compensate the video signals for the accumulated degradation caused primarily by the transmission between the transmitter and the receiver. • Patent number: 7298396
Abstract: A monitoring system for an RF transmission system, such as a multi-channel television broadcasting antenna feed system, gathers data about the physical and electrical condition of the RF transmission system in real time. The system can detect and localize deterioration and other time-dependent faults in the transmission system by the tendency of faults to produce reflections back to the transmitter that were not part of the original characterization of the installation. Some kinds of faults, identified early enough, can be corrected without replacing components, and especially without shutting down the transmission system during prime viewing hours in the case of television broadcasters, or during a critical period of use of the system in the case of other user types. Other faults can be detected in time to order replacement parts before the underlying problem becomes severe, and to allow servicing during periods of low demand.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for modulating both quadrature components of each of a plurality of RF signals comprising a multichannel signal is disclosed. By employing certain digital signal processing techniques, a pair of composite baseband signals is produced in manner that is uniquely associated with the modulation content of the RF signals. According to one aspect of the invention, by using the composite baseband signals to modulate in quadrature a single quadrature modulator, the composite baseband signals are shown to have a baseband frequency span that is substantially half of the frequency range spanned by the multichannel signal. An application for the CATV field in which a 6 MHz channel spacing between the RE signals is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7263713
Abstract: In a television signal transmission system, CS broadcasting signals received via a master antenna are converted into intermediate frequency signals in an LNB (Low Noise Block Down Converter). The CS intermediate frequency signals then undergo conversion of the modulation format, for example, from QPSK into 64-QAM, so that CS broadcasting signals from each transponder, having a bandwidth of, for example, 27 MHz, are accommodated in a narrower bandwidth, for example, 6 MHz, which is equivalent to one channel of terrestrial broadcasting services. Then, the signals accommodated in the narrower bandwidth is frequency-shifted into a vacant frequency band in the VHF band or the UHF band. Accordingly, the CS signals accommodated in the narrower band and frequency-shifted into the vacant band are multiplexed with terrestrial broadcasting signals in the VHF and UHF bands and BS intermediate frequency signals so that all these signals are delivered to each household via a single cable.

Abstract: A tuner of a digital television signal translator tunes to receive an RF digital television signal on a first selected television channel. A demodulator provides a baseband digital television signal from the RF digital television signal to which the tuner is tuned. The baseband television signal includes a data component identifying the first selected channel. A data replacer replaces the data component identifying the first selected channel with a data component identifying a second selected channel different from the first selected channel. The output of a modulator is modulated by the baseband television signal including the data component identifying the second selected channel for transmission as a digital television signal on the second selected channel.

Abstract: A filter-combiner for combining television signals from adjacent channels is presented herein. The combiner has two inputs that respectively receive an NTSC combined visual and aural signal and a DTV signal wherein the NTSC signal and the DTV signal are in adjacent channels. The DTV signal is of greater frequency than the NTSC signal. A combined output signal is provided at an output of the combiner. The combiner has sharp tuned filtering interposed between the inputs and the output and tuned to pass the DTV signal while reflecting the NTSC signal such that the passed DTV signal and the reflected NTSC signal combine as the combined output signal.

Abstract: The invention relates to a transmitter identification system, which utilizes an identification signal embedded into a digital television signal, enabling the transmitter of origin to be identified at a receiving station. Ideally the identification signal is an orthogonal pseudo-random sequence time synchronized to the signal frame structure of the digital television signal. Particularly designed for single frequency networks, identification of the various transmitted signals enables the network to be tuned to eliminate or minimize multi-path effects at certain locations, which receive transmissions from various transmitters.

The method involves inserting reference signals into the data sent to the transmitters in order to place them into known states at specific times relative to the digital signals sent to them for transmission. As a result of this method, the digital signals transmitted by each of the transmitters will be identical to one another so that the receivers will be able to identify one received signal as the main signal and the others as echoes.
