  • Patent number: 10890764
Abstract: A method and a system for video frame processing are proposed. The method is applicable to a system including a computing device and a head-mounted display having a motion sensor, a processor, and a display. The method includes the following steps. A sequence of rendered video frames including a first frame and a second frame subsequent to the first frame is received by the processor from the computing device. A first head movement of the head-mounted display is obtained from the motion sensor by the processor, where the first head movement is associated with the first frame. An interpolated frame is rendered according to the first frame, the second frame, and the first head movement and displayed subsequent to the first frame and prior to the second frame on the display by the processor.

  • Patent number: 7011414
Abstract: A highly efficient projection system and a color scrolling method are provided. In the color scrolling method, first, an optical splitter splits a beam emitted from a light source into individual color beams. Next, a rectangular light valve is disposed such that its long axis is along the direction into which the optical splitter splits the beam. Thereafter, the individual color beams are scrolled in the long axial direction of the light valve. The color scrolling in the long axial direction can increase light efficiency much more than a color scrolling performed in a short axial direction.

Abstract: It cannot be ensured that display setting changes are made at once in a system in which the number of display settings for a display processing apparatus is extremely large, an application is running under an operating system and display setting register change time is unpredictable from the application due to another task, or an internal configuration is incapable of immediately reflecting access from a host CPU to a display setting register. According to the present invention, outputs of a plurality of first display setting registers mapped into an address space for temporarily holding display setting data generated and outputted by a host CPU under control of a write control signal are connected to inputs of a plurality of second display setting registers holding display setting parameters referenced by display output module.

  • Patent number: 6690432
Abstract: A prism is mounted onto a motor without regard to its rotation angle relative to the motor index. Its position is electronically set later after construction of the optical path. A motor controller is used to control the rotation of the prism. This motor controller keeps the prism spinning at a constant velocity and positions the prism phase (rotation angle versus time). A variable offset is used to position the absolute prism rotation as a function of time. The phase may be advanced or delayed by an operator during set up. Each prism has its own phase. The phase of each prism in the system is set so that the illumination pattern correctly matches the video addressing of the panel. This is a one time set up during construction. The correct positions are set, and stored in non-volatile memory for life.

  • Patent number: 6683658
Abstract: A scanner phase control for a scrolling color projector utilizes the back-EMF value of a motor which rotates a prism of the scanner to set a reference point for the prism. A reference phase signal is provided which corresponds to timing information of the scan of a stripe of light provided by the prism. The phase of the motor is altered in response to the reference phase signal such that the back-EMF zero crossings of the motor coincide with the beginning of a scan as identified by the reference phase signal.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of reducing flicker in liquid crystal displays. A light beam modulated by image information organized by frames is produced. In alternating frames, designed as even and odd frames, the light beam is modulated use complementary voltages relative to a common electrode. The difference in the average modulation in the even frames and in the odd frames over time is determined. That difference is used to adjust the potential of the common electrode such that the difference in the average modulation over time becomes zero.

  • Patent number: 6609797
Abstract: A projector is often positioned so that its optical axis is at an imperfect orthogonal angle with respect to a projection screen. This position causes a keystone distortion as well as imperfect focus in the projected image. To correct these undesirable problems, initially, a lens and/or an image-forming plate is independently repositioned to bring the projected image into focus based upon user input data. The keystone distortion is also corrected by redrawing the image on an image-forming surface based upon additional user input data.

  • Patent number: 6563551
Abstract: A projection-type color image display system uses a reflective liquid crystal (LC) light modulator (24) and a polarizing beam-splitter (22) for separating the incoming and reflected light. Light from the source arrives on a first axis (28) and is reflected outward, with the imposed image, along a second axis (30) through a projection lens (26). In order to produce a high contrast image, a pre-polarizer (36, 42, 48) and/or post-polarizer (44, 50) are used to restore the selectivity and, consequently, optical system contrast for the wide “cone of acceptance” of light rays which are common in projection systems. In order to improve the system contrast, the pre- and/or post-polarizer is arranged along the first and second axis, respectively, with its polarizer absorbing axis extending parallel to the normal n of the reflective surface (34, 46) of the PBS.

  • Patent number: RE48107
Abstract: A multicolor illumination device using an excitation light source and a multi-segmented moving plate with wavelength conversion materials (e.g. phosphors) is disclosed. The exciting light source is a light emitting diode or a laser diode emitting in the UV and/or blue region. The wavelength conversion materials absorb the excitation light and emit longer wavelength light. Each segment of the moving plate contains a different wavelength conversion material or no wavelength conversion material. The plate is supported to move so that different segments are exposed to the excitation light at different times. The plate may be a wheel or rectangular in shape and rotates or oscillates linearly. When the plate moves, light of different colors is generated sequentially in time by the different wavelength conversion materials in different segments of the plate. The multicolor illumination device may be used in a projector system having a microdisplay imager for image display.
