Glare Reduction Patents (Class 348/834)
  • Patent number: 5526065
Abstract: An apparatus for displaying a television image on a television monitor applicable to a vehicle passenger compartment. In the television image displaying apparatus, the television monitor is installed on a center console of a vehicle passenger compartment. A liquid crystal filter is arranged on a television monitor screen which has variable transmittance according to a voltage applied across a whole surface electrode thereof. The liquid crystal filter serves to limit an angle of visible field around a driver's seat position with a front passenger seat position being provided a high image transmittance. In addition, a louver type filter is arranged between the TV monitor screen and liquid crystal filter. The louver type filter generally has a plurality of fine louvers, each elongate direction of the louvers being aligned in the horizontal direction.

  • Patent number: 5521759
Abstract: An optical filter is provided for suppressing unwanted reflections of background light when used with a display device such as a cathode ray tube or an electroluminescent screen, or in optical communication or surveillance. The filter has multiple thin layers including a first series of layers for suppressing reflections from its outer surface and a second series of layers constituting a bandpass interference filter. The first series of layers is arranged to suppress reflections over a broad wavelength band while the second series of layers allows transmittance over a relatively narrow wavelength passband within the broad wavelength band, resulting in improved contrast when the display is used in situations of high background light.

  • Patent number: 5418579
Abstract: A multiplanar image display system having a plurality of display units disposed to expose, by transmission through and reflection by transparent panels, displayed images to a viewing end of an image chamber. The images overlap along a common viewing axis to create an illusion of a three-dimensional display. The transparent panels and a primary display unit are disposed along, and secondary display units are displaced from, the viewing axis. The transparent panels and the display units are angled to each other and to the viewing axis. The display units are adjustably mounted; and the distances separating the overlapping images, and thereby the amount of parallax, are controllable as a function of the distances between the display units and their associated reflecting transparent panels.

  • Patent number: 5404073
Abstract: An antiglare/antistatic coating for a cathode ray tube (CRT) is applied to the outer surface of the CRT's faceplate and includes a first inner hygroscopic layer of silane, water, sulfuric acid and an alcohol mixture which may be applied by dipping, spinning or spraying. The coating further includes a second outer layer of silanes, water, acid, epoxy, and a coupling agent balanced with an alcohol mixture which is sprayed onto the first inner layer. The grounded first inner layer possesses high conductivity for antistatic protection, while the second outer layer, which possesses glass-like characteristics, provides antiglare protection by reducing the faceplate's reflectivity. The second outer layer dries as a hard porous coating which resists scratching and allows water vapor to penetrate into the first inner hygroscopic layer to maintain its high conductivity.
