    Abstract: A simple and inexpensive portable laptop computer hood is disclosed in the form of a sheet with panels, flaps, fold lines, and a single viewing aperture. The single sheet of foldable material can be folded into a 3-dimensional hood operational configuration or a flattened configuration for easy storage and transportation. Because these sheet's panels do not lock into specific positions when the sheet is configured into a 3-dimensional hood, they can be easily repositioned to accommodate variations in both laptops size dimensions and individual operator preferences. A notable aspect of the 3-dimensional configuration of the laptop computer hood is that it allows the laptop computer's keyboard to remain outside of the light-protected compartment area for easy access by the laptop computer's operator. Strategically placed side panels enable the unit to independently stand on its own as the laptop computer is inserted into the compartment.

    Abstract: A flexible panel is provided that is easily and conformingly applied to a curved display screen of a VDU to afford, in a lightweight manner, variably adjustable contrast enhancement of the VDU while simultaneously providing a decrease in the amount of ambient light reflected from the curved display screen. The flexible panel is a glass microsheet layered, on one side thereof, with an antireflection coating and, on the other side, with an electrochromic device. The electrochrmic device allows for variable adjustment of the contrast of the VDU as a function of the voltage applied across the electrochromic device. The flexible glass microsheet dually possesses the advantages of conventional rigid glass panels, such as excellent optical performance, high durability, capability of being coated with various optical coatings under extreme temperature, pressure and chemical conditions and the additional benfeit of physical flexibility.

The panel elements would normally be constructed of thin metal or other suitable material to hold their shape when attached to the video display cabinet to form a broad frame. The background light shield when attached forms a frame approximately parallel to the plane of the video screen of the video display and may be attached at the front of the cabinet to be substantially in the plane of the video screen. The background light shield is of dark color, such as black, and of rough texture for low reflectivity and contrast with the video display.

Mounting tabs are connected to or on the side panels which cooperate with a rubber band or other flexible retainer to exert a tensile force holding the visor onto the monitor. The visor is foldable into a compact and flat position in which it can be easily carried in the same case as the lap-top or portable computer.

When the computer monitor hood is in place on a computer monitor, the top, left and right shading panels each project forwardly from the front of the computer monitor, at the respective of the top, left side, and right side surfaces of the computer monitor, so as to shade the screen of the computer monitor.

A hinge section is formed in the top shade piece and side shade pieces for angle adjustment, whereby each piece can be adjusted independently to obtain a desired shading effect. A visor section extends forward from the top shade piece and rear screening sections extend rearward from the side shade pieces to further control the light entering the camera lens area.
