Patent number: 6229085Abstract: A filter 2A(2C), which prevents the leakage of electromagnetic waves from a PDP 1, is provided with a filter base 11 in front of the PDP 1 and a grounded conductive mesh 12 which transmits light from the base 11 on the PDP 1 side. A light scattering layer 13 is bonded to the mesh 12 by a conductive adhesive 14 which transmits light, and the spaces of the lattice, when the base 1 exists, of the mesh 12 are filled with the adhesive 14 so that, when an electric charge is induced in the mesh 12 by a pulse voltage applied to the PDP 1 for write/erase, the voltage across the lattice of the mesh 12 is made nearly equal to the potential of the mesh 12 so as not to cause an electric discharge and generate noise.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1998Date of Patent: May 8, 2001Inventors: Yukio Gotoh, Hiroki Sato

Patent number: 6065841Abstract: A computer monitor hood is provided having top, left side, and right side shading panels. The computer monitor hood is formed as a monolithic structure, and is made of rigid material having elastic memory. When it is first molded, the bottom edges of the left side and right side shading panels are closer together than their top edges so that, when the computer monitor hood is in place on a computer monitor, the left side and right side shading panels are biased into frictional contact with the computer monitor as a consequence of the elastic memory attempting to restore the left side and right side shading panels to their unstressed position. Thus, the computer monitor hood may be placed in any selected position on a computer monitor as a consequence of the left side and right side shading panels being biased towards and in frictional contact with the sides of the computer monitor.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1999Date of Patent: May 23, 2000Inventors: Philip Heller, David Heller

Patent number: 5988823Abstract: A simple and inexpensive portable laptop computer hood is disclosed in the form of a sheet with panels, flaps, fold lines, and a single viewing aperture. The single sheet of foldable material can be folded into a 3-dimensional hood operational configuration or a flattened configuration for easy storage and transportation. Because these sheet's panels do not lock into specific positions when the sheet is configured into a 3-dimensional hood, they can be easily repositioned to accommodate variations in both laptops size dimensions and individual operator preferences. A notable aspect of the 3-dimensional configuration of the laptop computer hood is that it allows the laptop computer's keyboard to remain outside of the light-protected compartment area for easy access by the laptop computer's operator. Strategically placed side panels enable the unit to independently stand on its own as the laptop computer is inserted into the compartment.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1998Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Inventor: Ken E. Wong

Patent number: 5959762Abstract: A flexible panel is provided that is easily and conformingly applied to a curved display screen of a VDU to afford, in a lightweight manner, variably adjustable contrast enhancement of the VDU while simultaneously providing a decrease in the amount of ambient light reflected from the curved display screen. The flexible panel is a glass microsheet layered, on one side thereof, with an antireflection coating and, on the other side, with an electrochromic device. The electrochrmic device allows for variable adjustment of the contrast of the VDU as a function of the voltage applied across the electrochromic device. The flexible glass microsheet dually possesses the advantages of conventional rigid glass panels, such as excellent optical performance, high durability, capability of being coated with various optical coatings under extreme temperature, pressure and chemical conditions and the additional benfeit of physical flexibility.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1997Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Assignee: Optical Coating Laboratory, Inc.Inventors: Steven P. Patent number: 5592241Abstract: An image display device incorporating a screen protection arrangement includes a screen frame mounted so as to peripherally surround a display screen of the device. A protector screen is provided which has a width dimension which is substantially equal to that of the screen frame. The screen protection arrangement further includes an insertion space provided within an upper side of the screen frame for accomodating an upper side of the protector screen and one or more base support portions which may be removably installed along a lower edge of the screen frame in a supporting space defined between an inner side thereof and a facing surface of the display screen. A predermined proportional relationship between width dimensions of the upper insertion space and the lower supporting space are established in consideration of a thickness dimension of the protector screen such that the protector screen may easily be installed or removed from the image display device.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1995Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Tetsuya Kita, Makoto Koizumi

Patent number: 5589985Abstract: A computer monitor hood for use in conjunction with a computer monitor having a top surface, left and right side surfaces, and a forwardly facing screen, is disclosed. The computer monitor hood comprises a top shading panel having a front edge, a rear edge, and left and right side edges. Left and right side shading panels are operatively attached to the top shading panel and are disposed in generally vertically oriented relation to the left and right side edges of the top shading panel, respectively. The left and right side shading panels each have front, rear, and bottom edges. A front-to-rear main axis extends from the front edges to the rear edges of the shading panels. When the computer monitor hood is in place on a computer monitor, the top, left and right shading panels each project forwardly from the front of the computer monitor, at the respective of the top, left side, and right side surfaces of the computer monitor, so as to shade the screen of the computer monitor.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1995Date of Patent: December 31, 1996Inventors: Philip Heller, David Heller

Patent number: 5528424Abstract: A camera lens shading device is disclosed having a flexible mounting band that attaches to a camera lens shroud and shade pieces, the shade pieces being made of opaque, flexible, plastic sheet material. A top shade piece attaches to the mounting band and extends outward from above the camera lens, adjustable over a range of angles. Two side shade pieces are attached to the top shade piece and are adjustable in angle to the top piece and in lateral distance therefrom for fitting a variety of camera lens shroud widths. A hinge section is formed in the top shade piece and side shade pieces for angle adjustment, whereby each piece can be adjusted independently to obtain a desired shading effect. A visor section extends forward from the top shade piece and rear screening sections extend rearward from the side shade pieces to further control the light entering the camera lens area.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1994Date of Patent: June 18, 1996Inventors: Blaine Lentz, C.
