Abstract: According to one embodiment, an electronic apparatus includes a video output module, a receiving module, and an image quality adjusting module. The video output module is configured to output 2D video and 3D video selectively. The receiving module is configured to receive a wearing state signal indicating whether or not a user wears shutter glasses. The image quality adjusting module is configured to determine a first image quality adjustment amount when the video output module outputs the 2D video and the wearing state signal indicates that the user wears the shutter glasses, and to determine a second image quality adjustment amount when the video output module outputs the 2D video and the wearing state signal indicates that the user does not wear the shutter glasses. The second image quality adjustment amount is different from the first image quality adjustment amount.

Abstract: A holographic direct-view display system uses holographic integral imaging techniques that is an auto stereoscopic way to reproduce parallax and occlusion. The display is not resolution limited and is scalable to display life size images if desired. The system can be used to transmit 3D depictions of a scene at video and sub-video rates as well as other information, such as images of documents or computer generated images. The images may be captured, transmitted and displayed in real-time (or near real-time) for telepresence or stored for time-shifted display. The system combines integral holography, a pulsed laser to record the hologram at high speed and a dynamic refreshable holographic material such as a photorefractive polymer as a recording media. The system uses techniques to write, read and erase the updateable hologram that allow the holographic material, hence direct-view display to remain stationary throughout each of the processes for continuous presentation of the hologram to the audience.

Abstract: A server process renders instances of a 3D virtual environment as video streams that may then be viewed on devices not sufficiently powerful to implement the rendering process natively or which do not have native rendering software installed. The server process is broken down into two steps: 3D rendering and video encoding. The 3D rendering step uses knowledge of the codec, target video frame rate, size, and bit rate from the video encoding step to render a version of the virtual environment at the correct frame rate, in the correct size, color space, and with the correct level of detail, so that the rendered virtual environment is optimized for encoding by the video encoding step. Likewise, the video encoding step uses knowledge of motion from the 3D rendering step in connection with motion estimation, macroblock size estimation, and frame type selection, to reduce the complexity of the video encoding process.

Abstract: A pseudo holographic visual effect is produced by acquiring at least two actual images of a subject wherein each image represents a different viewing angle of the single subject. Intermediary images corresponding to other viewing angles of the subject may be extrapolated from the two actual images or two adjacent images if a sufficient number of actual images are not available to create the desired level of resolution. To create the effect, an initial start image is displayed. Computer based sensors or camera images from a camera are then used to determine any movement of the device or user from the initial position at which the initial image was displayed. Once movement is detected or once the position of the viewer is determined, the initial image is replaced with an image that corresponds to the change in the detected viewing angle or with an image that corresponds to the viewing angle of the viewer.

A video format code is extracted from a coded bitstream in which a plurality of images is encoded in two or more source video formats. The video format code identifies a source video format in which a set of images in the plurality of images is encoded. A video format filter is selected to modify the set of images encoded in the source video format to generate another set of images encoded in the display video format. The other set of images encoded in the display video format is sent to the display panel.

Abstract: An image processing method including the following steps is provided. First, a two-dimensional original image is received. Next, a plurality of depth values corresponding to the two-dimensional original image are received. Afterwards, a two-dimensional shifting image is obtained according to the depth values and a standard value. A plurality of shifting values exist between the two-dimensional shifting image and the two-dimensional original image, and the shifting values are determined by a plurality of differences between the depth values and the standard value. Thereafter, a three-dimensional image is produced according to the two-dimensional original image and the two-dimensional shifting image.

Abstract: A video processing device may extract a plurality of view sequences from a three-dimensional (3D) input video stream and generate a plurality of graphics sequences that correspond to local graphics content. Each of the plurality of graphics sequences may be blended with a corresponding view sequence from the extracted plurality of view sequences to generate a plurality of combined sequences The local graphics content may comprise on-screen display (OSD) graphics, and may initially be generated as two-dimensional (2D) graphics. The plurality of graphics sequences may be generated from the local graphics content, based on, for example, video information for the input 3D video stream, user input, and/or preconfigured conversion data. After blending the view sequences with the graphics sequences, the video processing device may generate a 3D output video stream. The generated 3D output video stream may then be transformed to 2D video stream if 3D playback is not available.

Abstract: Several implementations relate to view synthesis with heuristic view merging for 3D Video (3DV) applications. According to one aspect, a first candidate pixel from a first warped reference view and a second candidate pixel from a second warped reference view are assessed based on at least one of a backward synthesis process to assess a quality of the first and second candidate pixels, a hole distribution around the first and second candidate pixels, or on an amount of energy around the first and second candidate pixels above a specified frequency. The assessing occurs as part of merging at least the first and second warped reference views into a signal synthesized view. Based on the assessing, a result is determined for a given target pixel in the single synthesized view. The result may be determining a value for the given target pixel, or marking the given target pixel as a hole.
