Abstract: A method for processing a 3D image signal and an image display device for implementing the method are provided. The 3D image signal processing method is implemented by the 3D image display device. Although an image signal transmission side transmits information to be included in a plurality of image signals, while omitting a portion of the information, a receiver can synthesize the transmitted information to reproduce an image. The device restores at least one image from a broadcast signal, and additionally generates an image at a virtual camera view from the restored image and displays it three-dimensionally. To this end, the image display device receives a broadcast signal and obtains at least one set of camera parameters from signaling information. Then, the image display device generates a virtual view image according to the camera parameters, and formats the virtual view image and the broadcast image included in the broadcast signal three-dimensionally.

Abstract: A clor image and a depth image of a live video are received. Each of the color image and the depth image are processed to identify the foreground and the background of the live video. The background of the live video is removed in order to create a foreground video that comprises the foreground of the live video. A control input may be received to control the embedding of the foreground video into a second background from a background feed. The background feed may also comprise virtual objects such that the foreground video may interact with the virtual objects.

Abstract: A method of decoding closed caption disparity data, involves a TV receiver receiving closed caption disparity data for a 3D display encoded as a sequence of frame interval/slope change pairs, with the frame interval representing a designated number of frames over which each linear function representing disparity is to be applied paired with a value indicating a change in slope from the slope of a preceding segment. A first segment in the sequence presumes a predetermined slope as a reference. A sequence of caption data packets specifies a closed caption display window containing closed caption text. The disparity value is used in each frame to determine a horizontal offset of left and right eye views of the CC display that establishes the closed caption display window's perceived z-axis position. Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided that converts video content from a first format type into a second format type so that the video content can be viewed with other video content that has the second video format type. The method includes determining a first format of a first stream of video content (702) and determining a second format of a second stream of video content (704, 706). The method also includes converting (806, 808) the format of the second stream of video content into the format of the first stream and combining (812) the first stream of video content with the converted second stream of video content to form. In order to display the first and second video content streams the method decodes the combined first and converted second stream of video content using the first format.

Abstract: In a signal processing device, a first left eye noise extraction circuit and a first right eye noise extraction circuit perform the same noise extraction process. A second left eye noise extraction circuit and a second right eye noise extraction circuit perform different noise extraction processes. The signal processing control circuit controls a selector so that the selector selects the outputs of the left eye noise extraction circuits for a left eye video signal, and the outputs of the right eye noise extraction circuits for a right eye video signal. The correlation detection circuit detects a correlation between the left and right eye video signals, and controls a selector so that the selector selects the output of the first left or right eye noise extraction circuit when the correlation is high, and the output of the second left or right eye noise extraction circuit when the correlation is low.

Abstract: Embodiments use point clouds to form a three dimensional image of an object. The point cloud of the object may be formed from analysis of two dimensional images of the object. Various techniques may be used on the point cloud to form a 3D model of the object which is then used to create a stereoscopic representation of the object.

Abstract: A method and system are provided in which an integrated circuit (IC) comprises multiple devices that may be selectively interconnected to route and process 3D video data. The IC may be operable to determine whether to scale the 3D video data before the 3D video data is captured to memory or after the captured 3D video data is retrieved from memory, and selectively interconnect one or more of the devices based on the determination. The selective interconnection may be based on input and output formats of the 3D video data, and on a scaling factor. The input format may be a left-and-right (L/R) format or an over-and-under (O/U) format. Similarly, the output format may be a L/R format or an O/U format. The selective interconnection may be based on input and output pixel rates of the 3D video data. Moreover, the selective interconnection may be determined on a picture-by-picture basis.
