The initiator functions to induce photo polymerization of the reactive monomer. The initiator has a molecular structure comprising aromatic rings, carbonyl groups connected to the aromatic rings, and substituted moieties connected to the aromatic rings. The initiator lowers the activation energy of chain initiation reaction of the polymerization of reactive monomer to allow the photo polymerization of the reactive monomer to take place in a wider wavelength range of 200-450 nm, so as to reduce the required intensity and luminance of ultraviolet light and to speed up the reaction of the reactive monomers and also to provide a uniform result of reaction, to reduce the destruction that the ultraviolet light causes on the material of alignment layer and the liquid crystal material, and to improve stability of the panel.

The cell has a liquid crystal (LC) material that is a mixture comprising a monomer, a photo-initiator and a ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) where a polymer network has been established at a certain temperature to achieve constraints of ESHFLC electro-optical mode. The resultant mixture is characterized by a helix pitch less than and comparable to a FLC layer thickness of the cell, and provides a selective reflection in an UV region. The concentration of the monomer in the pure FLC mixture has also been optimized for the phase diagram, scattering and the tilt angle. Abstract: Defective display by a liquid crystal display device is reduced. In a liquid crystal composition which contains a liquid crystal material exhibiting a blue phase and has a transmission spectrum with a single peak in a temperature range where the liquid crystal material exhibits a blue phase, it is found that the blue phase of the liquid crystal material can be stabilized in a wide temperature range by polymer stabilization treatment. Thus, the liquid crystal composition allows the polymer stabilization treatment to be achieved in a wider temperature range. This makes it possible to reduce defective orientation in a composite of polymer and liquid crystal formed by subjecting the liquid crystal composition to the treatment. As a result, it is possible to reduce defective display by a liquid crystal display device which includes the composite of polymer and liquid crystal.

The solubility of the liquid crystal RMs is significantly improved in a liquid crystal matrix while the returning force of liquid crystal molecules is increased, so as to solve the image sticking issue, increase the polymerization capacity of the liquid crystal molecules, raise the curing speed of the curing reaction between the liquid crystal RMs and the polyimide surface and shorten the curing time, so that the purpose of energy saving and carbon reduction can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 8956548
Abstract: The present, invention relates to liquid crystal compositions having a smectic A structure for use in an optical device in which the composition is sandwiched between a pair of electrodes (12-15). In essence the composition includes a siloxane oligomer (component (a)) which may be seen to construct a layered SmA system of particular spacing and “strength”. Within this structure a low molar mass nematic mesogen (component (c)) is provided that may be considered to be that of a “plasticiser” which moderates the layer “strength”, while simultaneously providing tuneability to the properties of the composition, e.g. its refractive index or dielectric anisotropy. The addition of a side chain liquid crystal polysiloxane (component (d)) allows such systems to be further moderated since they can be considered as binding together the la>¾rs, both within a given layer and between layers.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for termination detection of optical alignment of liquid crystal material, which includes: under influence of electrical field, irradiating light on liquid crystal material so that reactive monomers in liquid crystal material polymerizing; detecting a residual amount or a thickness change value of the reactive monomers in liquid crystal material to determine detected residual amount of reactive monomers or thickness change value in liquid crystal box reaching a default value; when reaching default value, terminating optical alignment of liquid crystal material. The present invention also provides a device for termination detection of optical alignment of liquid crystal material. Through detecting termination of optical alignment, the present invention realizes automatic control of irradiation time in optical alignment to reduce the effect of individual glass substrate variation on optical alignment to avoid affecting reaction process of alignment on reactive monomer.
