  • Patent number: 7883205
Abstract: A lens retaining structure for a secondary glasses assembly having a frame configured to be mounted on a pair of primary glasses. The lens retaining structure comprises an inner portion and an outer portion, each comprising a flexible, resilient member having a predetermined rest position. The inner portion has an inner lens grabber thereon and the outer portion has an outer lens grabber thereon. The inner and outer lens grabbers are configured to engage corresponding features of a lens. The inner and outer lens grabbers separated by a first distance when the inner and outer portions are in their rest positions, such that the lens retaining structure is operable to retain one of a plurality of lenses of differing sizes and shapes having corresponding features separated by a second distance which is different from the first distance.

  • Patent number: 7856673
Abstract: The goggles of the invention utilize a substantially rigid frame with separate top and bottom individually rotatable elements, namely an upper browbar and a lower nosepiece, that firmly capture the lens from above and below. The lens is further secured to the frame by projections on each of the browbar and nosepiece which fit through apertures in the lens. At the top, a post which projects forwardly from the frame is received in the well of the browbar by snap-fit engagement. At the bottom, a prong on the rotatable nosepiece passes through a bottom aperture of the lens and is received in a recess of a bottom portion of the frame by snap-fit engagement. The apertures and cooperating projections are preferably located along the center of a one-piece lens. Thus, the rotatable browbar and nosepiece capture the lens top and bottom by edgewise compression and hold the lens front-to-back.

Abstract: So-called ‘rimmed’ or “half-rimmed” spectacles have two optical or sun lenses with contiguous edges between which is a bridge supporting the nose pads. The lenses are joined together by a central linking element and by a rigid full frame or a partial frame comprising a rigid upper part which is continued by a lower part in the form of two flexible and transparent cords housed in a groove running a the edge of each lens to support them. The spectacles are characterized in that the central linking means is a vertical bar inserted between the extreme adjoining flanks of the contiguous edges of the lenses, respective profiles being formed in the flanks to engage with, by housing, complementary profiles formed on the flanks of the linking bar, in such a way as to locate and secure it, and hence the lenses, without additional mechanical fixing devices.
