Abstract: Disclosed herein are optical projection systems and related methods for projecting imagery employing shifting image position in-time to mitigate speckle. Exemplary optical systems may include a projector having a light source, a relay lens and at least one projection lens for projecting images. The relay lens or the projection lens may have at least one lens element that may be translated in-time substantially orthogonal to the optical axis of the optical system. Alternatively, the projection lens in its entirety may be shifted in-time to reduce speckle. Further, in stereoscopic embodiments, two projection lenses may be employed, wherein at least one element in each projection lens is moveable to shift the image in-time to reduce speckle. Moreover, electronic compensation, such as electronic addressing or image warping, for the image shifting may be employed to shift the image in a direction opposite to the speckle-reducing shift in position.

Abstract: Described herein are devices that provide projection-type video output in a portable and flexible design. The design includes a projection chamber, a base, and an interface that permits relative positioning between the projection chamber and base. The base maintains the position of the display device. The projection chamber includes components responsible for the production of images based on received video data and components responsible for the projection of those images. Relative pointing between the projection chamber and base allows the projection chamber to be pointed—and an output projected image to be positioned—with minimal effort.

  • Publication number: 20130113975
Abstract: Disclosed is a projector image correction method and system that actively modifies a projected image based on observed distortions in the reflected image from the projection surface. The method and system utilize a projector for displaying an image or motion picture on a screen, a camera for capturing the projection surface and projected image, an image correction unit for processing the differences between the captured image and the projected image, and an algorithm for interpreting the camera and projector image differences and effectuating the active correction of the projector image. Correction data from the camera image is utilized to correct the projected image by superimposing the data over the image for each frame, accounting for image distortion due to rough or multi-colored surfaces that otherwise change the projected image quality on the projection surface.

  • Patent number: 8434879
Abstract: A focus evaluation value calculation unit acquires a captured image captured by an image capturing unit and then analyzes the image so as to calculate, as a focus evaluation value, a characteristic value that changes in accordance with the focus state of a video image adjusted by a focus adjustment unit. A focus evaluation value storage unit stores the focus evaluation value and a target value of a focus evaluation value. A focus state determination unit determines a display color of focus state information, which is shown as a graph with a color indicating the degree of focus. The focus state determination unit includes: a unit for calculating a change of the focus evaluation value; and a unit for determining the focus state information to be displayed by referring to a table that associates a combination of the change of the focus evaluation value, the focus evaluation value, and the target value with the display color of the focus state information.

Abstract: A device, method, and program stored in a recording medium are provided. A sampling time period and, a value of limit angle are set. Inclination of the projector device is detected with respect to a horizontal surface to output a plurality of inclination angle values of the projector device. A representative angle value of a current sampling time period is calculated based on the plurality of inclination angle values and the difference between the representative angle value and a representative angle value from a previous sampling time period is calculated. It is determined whether the difference in representative angle value is equal to or greater than the limit angle value to generate a determination result. Finally, trapezoidal distortion in the image is corrected based on the inclination angle values detected when the determination result indicates that the difference is equal to or greater than the limit angle value.

  • Publication number: 20130107218
Abstract: A system for stereoscopic cinema projection comprising at least one projector for projecting two images, one image for a first eye and one image for a second eye of a viewer, is proposed. The beam paths of the light emerging from the projector respectively run through a linear polarizer to a correspondingly assigned projection lens. After passing through the projection lens, the beam paths of the two images, which are different for the eyes of a viewer, run through a radial and respectively a tangential polarization filter and are simultaneously projected, with different polarization states, exactly one on top of the other onto a metallic projection wall. By means of a visual aid for both eyes of a viewer, the lenses of which are configured differently for each eye with a radial and respectively a tangential polarization filter, each partial image is made visible only for the first or left eye or the second or right eye (or vice versa) and the 3D impression is thus generated for the viewer.

Abstract: Systems methods and apparatus for projection system including a control/illumination module and a separate projector head are disclosed. The control/illumination module can be disposed in the location separate from location in which the projector head is disposed and/or used. The projector head can be coupled to the control/illumination module via a control signal connection, and illumination transmission connection and an optional coolant connection. By separating the control/illumination module from the projector head module, many, if not all, noise and heat producing elements can be implemented in the control/illumination module, thus providing a smaller sized, quieter, efficient and lower maintenance projector head that can be installed in implementations in which extraneous noise, heat, and leaked light can be detrimental to the viewing experience.

Abstract: A projection apparatus including a digital micro mirror device (DMD), a light source, a lens, a photoelectric conversion device, a decision device and an adjustment module is provided. When the DMD is switched to a first operating state, the DMD reflects a light beam emitted by the light source to the lens. When the DMD is switched to a second operating state, the DMD reflects the light beam to the photoelectric conversion device. The photoelectric conversion device generates a signal value according to a light intensity of the light beam. The decision device compares the signal value with a predetermined value. When the signal value is smaller than the predetermined value, the decision device generates a driving signal value. The driving signal value is used for driving the adjustment module to sequentially adjust a position of the light source along a plurality of axes.
