Where the electronic document includes information having close tolerances, such as information to be printed on an address label or other defined region on a sheet, the automatic contraction may cause the information to be misaligned with respect to the label or other defined region. Automatically expanding the information within the electronic document prior to printing may counter this effect, and increase the likelihood that the information will be printed within the label or other defined region for which it is intended.

    Abstract: A method of calibrating a printer using a reflective scanner is disclosed. Because the reflective scanner used for calibration may only be able to accurately measure a limited density range that is less than the full density range of the printer, some information from the reflective scanner is disregarded or deemphasized during the calibration process. Lookup tables (LUTs) that comprise the printer calibration values are updated based on adjustments calculated from the scanner for density regions where the scanner produces relatively accurate measurements, but updated based on the preexisting settings for density regions where the scanner produces relatively inaccurate measurements. In transitions regions between accurate and inaccurate regions, the LUTs are adjusted based on a combination of measurements from the scanner and the preexisting settings.

The extraction step extracts the positions of one or a plurality of objects and the position of a reference character indicating reference to each object, included in image data. Based on the extraction result of the extraction step, the specifying step specifies, among the objects, a specific object for which the corresponding reference character is to be printed on a side opposite to the object printed side when the image data is printed by both-side printing. The data generating step, based on the image data, generates edited image data in which the specific object is copied to a position that allows the specific object to be printed on a paper sheet different from that for the reference character corresponding to the specific object when the both-side printing is performed.

If two touch inputs simultaneously performed on first and second images are detected, and the distance between the first and second images that have been moved accompanying the movement of the individual touch positions respectively indicated by the two touch inputs has become equal to or less than a specified distance, then the image forming device generates a third image in which the first and second images are arranged adjacently. Furthermore, the image forming device displays the third image on the touch panel instead of the first and second images. The user combines the two images intuitively and easily.
