Abstract: An apparatus, product monitoring system, and a method of measuring an amount of product on a roller are provided. The method includes receiving a first position distance between a position sensor and an exterior edge of the roller. The method also includes comparing the first position distance with a predetermined position distance. The predetermined position distance defines the distance between the position sensor and the exterior edge of the roller at a specific amount of product left on the roller. The method further includes determining the amount of product left on the roller based on the comparison of the first position distance and the predetermined position distance. The method still further includes causing the transmission of a signal relating to the amount of product left on the roller.

  • Patent number: 7190492
Abstract: A serial recording system printer continuously records a plurality of pages on a continuous recording sheet repeatedly fed/stopped and conveyed with a constant conveyance step width. A cutter is disposed on a downstream side of a print head so that the position of the cutter can be changed in the conveyance direction. The cutter position is moved for each page in accordance with the dimension of the page, and the sheet is cut. It is assumed that a signal indicating a terminal or front end position of the page is a start point, and that a product (n?) of a conveyance step width (?) and the number of repetitions (n) is set as a conveyance distance of the recording sheet. The cutter is moved to be positioned so that a distance (A) to the cutter from a print end position of a page terminal end or a print start position of a page front end agrees with the conveyance distance (n?).

Abstract: In order to obtain a print area from a printing start position to a printing end position in the longitudinal direction of printing paper without leaving any margin in the lateral direction of the paper, the width of a heater line of a thermal head (1a), corresponding to the lateral direction of the printing paper, is set to be not less than the width of the printing paper. Considering a shift length to be made by a cutter (6) in cutting, a CPU (10A) determines a first cutting position that is on the side of the print area with respect to the printing start position of the print area, and a final cutting position that is on the side of the print area with respect to the printing end position of the print area. Then, the CPU (10A) gives a cutting command which indicates the first and final cutting positions to the cutter (6) which will cut the printing paper at those positions. This allows an image printing apparatus to obtain cut printing paper which is entirely an effective print area without any margin.

Abstract: Transportation of a document (P1), transportation of a recording sheet (P2), activation of a cutter system and simultaneous transportation of the document (P1) and recording sheet (P2) are carried out by a single motor (M) in an image processor (1). A first pendulum gear mechanism (16) selectively transmits the drive force of the motor (M) to a separation roller gear (g12) and a feed roller gear (g14), to a platen roller gear (g20) or to a second pendulum gear mechanism (g17). The second pendulum gear mechanism (17) continues or stops transmission of the rotational force of the motor (M) from the first pendulum gear mechanism (16) to a cutter drive gear (g28). Second and third contact parts (40c, 40d) of a regulating plate (40) regulate movement of the first pendulum gear mechanism (16) and change the transmission destination of the rotational force of the motor (M). The position of the regulating plate (40) and the rotation direction of the motor (M) are controlled by a CPU (50).

Abstract: Brochures, pamphlets, books, and the like containing a plurality of laser-perforated paper which has been folded and bound (in either order) on the lines of perforation have, among other things, substantially improved compressed, lay-flat properties (i.e., significantly reduced bowing) as compared to conventional perforated paper containing books, pamphlets, and the like. Additionally, the inventive articles have surprisingly high strength on the lines of perforation and low paper slippage as well. The inventive processes provide for an easy and efficient way to produce brochures, pamphlets, signatures, and other paper-based products which are easy to handle, store, and transport.

Abstract: A tape printing apparatus having a detection member which detects movement of a tape cutter to its tape cutting direction. A control system is provided for stopping tape feeding and tape printing operation when the detection member detects the movement of the tape cutter for preventing the print tape from being entangled with an internal mechanical component. Printing operation for one train of dots read from a print buffer is performed when a print key is operated and the count value of a tape feed counter is incremented by 1 dot. Such steps are repeatedly performed if no cutting operation is made by means of a cutting control button and If tape feed count value is not coincident with cut position data, and if a sequence of printing processes have not yet been completed. On the other hand, if the cutting control button is operated while a printing operation is being performed, the printing operation and tape feeding operation are stopped.

Abstract: In a device for transporting sections (28) of a recording substrate from a recording mechanism, the recording mechanism has a cutting unit (12) for separating the sections (28) from the recording substrate. The cutting unit can be moved, in a cutting stroke and in a return stroke, transversely to the direction of transport (A) of the recording substrate across its width. Transport elements (32, 38) for grasping and advancing the separated sections (28) are disposed behind the cutting station in the direction of transport (A) and can be coupled by means of a gear arrangement (14, 24, 52, 50, 44, 36) to the cutting unit (12) in such a way that, upon the return stroke of the cutting unit (12), they grasp the separated section (28) and advance it in the direction of transport (A).
