Abstract: An image forming apparatus determines whether or not facsimile data with transmission terminal identification data added thereto is transferred on the basis of received transmission terminal identification data when receiving the facsimile data with the identification data. The apparatus retrieves whether or not a box to which the identification data is put as a name and to which a setting to transfer the received facsimile data is set is created in a storage unit when determining to transfer the received facsimile data. The request processing part authenticates the users based on the received user identification information and performs operations corresponding to the process requests on the address book in accordance with access authority permitted to the users. Abstract: Facsimile documents are communicated between a facsimile machine and a telephone network through an information handling system local area network to provide improved flexibility with the usage and positioning of the facsimile machine with minimal impact on the usage model. A facsimile module associated with the local area network and located distal the facsimile machine converts digital documents provided from the facsimile machine through the local area network into formats for transmission on the telephone network, such as an analog modem signal, TDM packets representing an analog modem signal or VoIP/FoIP packets representing an analog modem signal.

Abstract: A method for distributing a digital image of a customer includes receiving a request from a customer to a human representative (i.e., a “roving” photographer) for an image to be taken of the customer at a site. An image of the customer is captured by the “roving” photographer at the site in response to the received request. The image is transmitted to a remote processor. An electronic request is received from the customer to view the transmitted image, and the image is transmitted from the remote processor to the customer's communication device. If the customer decides to purchase the image, a transaction is finalized by receiving payment data from the customer, and the final image is provided to the customer. A commission is then paid to the photographer for the transaction. In another embodiment, the cost is at least partially subsidized by advertisement pushed to the customer's communication device.

Abstract: A method is directed to using a multifunction printer to identify pages of a printed document that have a specified text string. The method comprises electronically converting, with the multifunction printer, a plurality of pages of the printed document to a plurality of electronic text pages corresponding to the printed pages. Abstract: There is provided a method and system for initiating an information transmission, such as with faxing, e-mail, data streaming, or the like from a personal computer on a network having at least one networked multifunction machine. The method comprises the steps of invoking a fax command from a software program on a personal computer and then viewing a list of machines residing on the network which contain local address book information. Upon viewing the list, a machine is selected from the list and a search is conducted through the personal computer for a local copy of the selected machine's address book information. If no local copy exists, a local copy of the selected machine's address book information is created on the personal computer. The local copy of the selected machine's address book is then used to retrieve address book information for selecting a recipient of an information transmission.
