  • Patent number: 5961226
Abstract: A printing apparatus capable of feeding standard and non-standard sheets so that image data can be printed on various types of sheets with the need for increasing the number of internal components. One embodiment for achieving this includes a sheet setting unit that permits selection of one of a plurality of predefined sheets, a sheet width sensor unit that senses whether sheets in a sheet supply member meet a predefined width, and a controller coupled to the sheet setting unit and the sheet sensor unit. The controller is responsive to either the selected one of the plurality of predefined sheets or user input of dimensional data of the sheets in the supply member. Based upon the set sheet type or input dimensional data, the controller then adjusts the magnification of the image to be printed and prints the image on the sheets.

  • Patent number: 5960126
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for providing relevance-enhanced image reduction in computer systems. Using such a method and system, information including images can be displayed in a display area that is smaller than the display area for which the information was designed while accurately conveying the overall content of the information. A computer system in which the present invention operates includes a computer connected to a display device and a secondary storage device. A reducer is stored in the secondary storage device for execution by the computer. Additionally, data regarding an image to be displayed on the display device is stored in the secondary storage device. In operation, the computer receives data regarding an image to be displayed from the secondary storage device. The reducer reduces the image by first cropping the image and then scaling the image. Lastly, the computer displays the reduced image on the display device.

Abstract: A recording apparatus records image data without wastefully consuming record sheets. Received image data are combined in a sub-scan direction, and if a sub-scan length of the combined image data does not exceed a sub-scan length of a record sheet loaded in the apparatus, the combined data is recorded on one record sheet. When main scan lengths of image data of a plurality of pages combined are different from each other, the image data are reduced to comply to a record sheet of a minimum main scan length. When resolutions of image data of a plurality of pages combined are different from each other, the resolutions are converted to a minimum resolution and they are recorded.

  • Patent number: 5608541
Abstract: A technology for outputting an image, which has been subjected to a diagonal process, in such a manner that said image can be included within a recording paper sheet. Specifically, an inputted image of an original document is subjected to an enlargement (or a contraction) process and a diagonal process, followed by changing the read start address to be read from a shift memory in accordance with the size of the output recording paper sheet and that of a diagonal image to output a portion of the diagonal image, that protrudes the output recording paper sheet, into a marginal portion of the output recording paper sheet.

  • Patent number: 5608542
Abstract: Customized index prints incorporating user determined graphical representations and optional textual information is generated from user selectable digital index print description files having template data and bit-mapped graphical representations. Digital image data is provided from a film scanner along with frame number information and is resized using size instructions from the index print description file to fit the imagette areas in the index print template. Optional textual data is entered via a user interface to provide customized information to the customer. The processed imagette data and bit-mapped graphical representations (and optional textual information) is then merged into the index print template data to create a printable customized index print template file which can be sent directly to a digital printer or stored for subsequent off-line printing.

  • Patent number: 5602651
Abstract: The present invention provides an image recording apparatus including a document size detection sensor 103 for recognizing a size of an image to be recorded. An image input section 101 reads and stores therein the image to be recorded, and a paper feeder stores therein and feeding recording paper having a specified size. An image forming section 108 forms an image on recording paper fed from the paper feeder. An image processing section 106 divides a read image into two portions based on a result of detection by the document size detection sensor 103 when a size of the image to be recorded is larger than recording paper having a specified size and executes image processing for displacing a central position of each image so that an edge section of each image will be aligned to an edge of a binding space of each discrete sheet of recording paper. One of the image portions may further be inverted. An image output section 107 outputs an image processed by the image processing section 108.

  • Patent number: 5600429
Abstract: It is determined whether recording paper set in a copying apparatus is oriented sideways or in the lengthwise direction, and it is determined whether an original has been set on a platen sideways or in the lengthwise direction. Based upon these determinations and a designated binding direction in which the recording paper is to be bound, the image read from the original is rotated through a predetermined angle in a two-dimensional plane and the rotated image is then printed out on the recording paper. This makes it possible to perform double-sided copying in a normal manner irrespective of the orientation of the original on the platen.

  • Patent number: 5579116
Abstract: A video printer is supplied with image information, which represents a halftone image having an aspect ratio of 4/3. A rotationally converting section in IC converts the image information so that orientation of the image makes one fourth rotation. A size reducing section in IC processes the image information to reduce a size of the image. A thermal recording head is supplied with the image information after the reduction and the rotational conversion, and records the image on a color thermosensitive recording sheet, which has an aspect ratio of 4/3. The image is recorded in an upper half of the recording sheet. A phrase memory stores phrase information. A synthesizing circuit combines the phrase information with the image information after the reduction and the rotational conversion. The phrase is preferably recorded in a lower half of the recording sheet and outside the image.

  • Patent number: 5576848
Abstract: This invention realizes synthesis of an image of an original document (an original image) with a separate image composed of a row of characters. The possibility that the original image and the separate image will overlap each other when the original image is printed on a sheet is precluded by the present invention using a procedure which comprises comparing the size of the sheet with the size of the original image (size of sheet>size of original image) and shifting (adjusting) the position for printing the original image or, when necessary, further contracting the original image or the separate image so that the separate image may be contained by way of synthesis in the part of a margin of the sheet appearing as the difference between the size of the sheet and the size of the original image prior to the printing of the original image on the sheet.

  • Patent number: 5568573
Abstract: A reading apparatus serving as an input means for simultaneously reading printed image information from both the front and back of a document, converting the read information into digital data, and storing the digital data on a data recording medium, such as an optical disk, comprises document carrier mechanisms, a front reading sensor, a back reading sensor, a front size determining sensor, a back size determining sensor, a document size comparator, and a reading control circuit. These components are incorporated in the reading apparatus. The document carrier mechanisms carry documents inserted through a slot through the apparatus and eject them through an outlet. The front data reading sensor and back data reading sensor read printed images from the front and back of a document. The front size determining sensor and back size determining sensor are located upstream of the front data reader in the document carrier path, and detect the sizes of the front and back of a document.
