Abstract: Conventionally, it is not possible to evenly correct a color conversion table of a reading device in the entire color region even with a limited number of patches. In order to correct a color conversion table, a color conversion table from a device-independent color space into a device-independent color space is newly stored. A shift in read data between devices is reflected in a correction 3D-LUT and a color conversion table is corrected using the correction 3D-LUT. Thereby, it is possible to correct the entire color region with a smaller number of pieces of data and with less time and effort than when a color conversion table is newly recreated.

Abstract: A printer is operated under a first set of conditions to create a first set of M number of samples and under a target set of conditions to create a second set of K samples. Each sample is produced using the same colorant(s). The actual spectral reflectance for each sample is measured. In accordance with the present invention the actual spectral reflectances for corresponding samples in the first and second sets are used to create a cross-validated, partial-least-squares transform that maps a reflectance from a sample produced under the first set of conditions to a reflectance from a sample produced under the target set of conditions. The transform and the actual spectral reflectance measured from the M number of samples in the first set are used to produce a set of M number of predicted reflectances, where each predicted reflectance represents a sample producible by the printer under the target set of operating conditions using one of the M colorant(s).

  • Patent number: 7777760
Abstract: A display color-correcting system is provided. Color response values are measured that go into the vertices of polyhedra in a cubic color output space of the display. A set of corresponding values for the display is built from intermediate values determined between the measured color response values. The intermediate values are determined by decomposition and interpolation of interpolation volumes in the cubic color output space. Each of the interpolation volumes is the combined volume of a selected polyhedron within the cubic color output space and a predetermined volume of space between the selected polyhedron and the next polyhedron within the cubic color output space. The set of corresponding values is converted into decoupled RGB adjustment values that specify the RGB signals independently for the display to produce corrected colors. Abstract: A YUV format to be stored in a memory is selected from A or B by a format judging unit for RGB data that is the input output display data of a memory unit, based on the comparison between chrominance (U, V) difference information on horizontal two pixels and the threshold values of U difference and V difference to be resistor-set at a format judging unit. The YUV data and information of A or B that are YUV format-converted at the format conversion unit are stored in the memory. The selection of the YUV format of A or B is, when the chrominance difference information is small as compared with the threshold value the format is YUV 422 (B conversion), and when it is large the format is that the low order bits of Y, U, V of each pixel are reduced (A conversion).

Abstract: What is provided is a system and method for node set construction and look-up table generation to transform image data in the form of color values of an input color image in an input color space to an output color space of an image output system. In the present method, node locations are selected based upon an importance value generated by a significance function which describes a relative importance of a given color value in the input image or a region thereof. A distance weighting function is also provided which is applied to the significance function to balance the significance of a given node against a relative positioning of all other nodes in the multi-dimensional grid. Nodes can be added or deleted according to methods also described herein. Accordingly, a multi-dimensional look-up table is generated wherein node tiling is based upon a significance of color values of an input image.

Abstract: A system and method for accurately communicating color production printer color requirements include color selector software to display an interactive original document on a monitor. Tools enable navigating the displayed original document, tagging at least one critical color of the displayed document, and selection of a color tolerance in connection with each tagged critical color of the displayed document. Target builder software creates a master critical colors chart displaying only tagged critical colors for the original document, a master color aim chart, and a master color tolerance chart of critical colors and associated color tolerances identified in the displayed document. At least the critical colors chart and original document are printed. A printed master color aim chart and master color tolerance chart and customer printed charts are compared to the production end printed master critical colors chart for visually determining tolerances of customer printed charts.

Abstract: A coloring material color separating section 101 separates an input image into ink colors of a printer referring to an LUT which is registered in the printer as initial values and used for color separation of coloring materials. A total coloring material amount calculating section 102 calculates total amounts of coloring materials equal to amounts of component coloring materials to be used of each pixel from the data passing through the ink color separation, and obtains the maximum value of them. A total coloring material amount adjusting section 103 readjusts the total amounts of the coloring materials of all the pixels such that they become equal to the maximum amount of the coloring materials using the total amount of the coloring materials of the pixel at which the total amount of the coloring material becomes maximum.

Abstract: No scheme for calculating a color obtained by mixing two spot colors (composite spot color) has been established yet. Hence, an image processing apparatus of this invention includes a spectral database which stores spectral data of spot colors and mixed colors of the spot colors. Upon rendering, a mixed color region of spot colors is detected. A colorimetry table of the spectral DB which corresponds to a combination of the spot colors of the mixed color region is selected with reference to a combination table of the spectral DB. Spectral data corresponding to a mixed color is obtained from the colorimetry table on the basis of the density values of the spot colors of the mixed color region, and the obtained spectral data is supplied to rendering processing.

Abstract: Saturation to white and fading of subjects' faces are prevented when performing density correction on digital images. An average signal value, obtained from a photographic image, is compared against a predetermined reference value, to judge whether correction is to be administered to brighten or darken the photographic image. A corrected image constituted by corrected signal values, which are obtained by correcting the pixel signal values of the photographic image with a predetermined correction amount, is generated only in cases that it is judged that correction to brighten the photographic image is to be administered. At this time, if the brightness represented by signal values of pixels of the photographic image are greater than or equal to a predetermined brightness, the correction amount is gradually reduced as the signal values become brighter.

  • Patent number: RE41527
Abstract: A method for transforming a first image defined by a first multi-dimensional color space (RGB) into second image defined by a second multi-dimensional color space (CMYK). The method computes the transformation using information derived from a previous transformation of said second image into said first image. The method then minimizes the error produced while transforming the second image back into the first image. As such, an image editing system can display on a video monitor an image that is defined in one multi-dimensional color space (RGB), print using a printer that prints images using a second multi-dimensional color space (CMYK) and edit an image using any multi-dimensional color space (either RGB or CMYK) that facilitates rapid and accurate image editing.
