  • Patent number: 7392330
Abstract: Memory access bandwidth within a digital camera is allocated among several requestors by assigning each requester a “tokens per snapshot” (TPS) value. Each requestor has a DMA engine and a DMA entry queue. If the requester wishes to access the memory, then a DMA entry is pushed onto the DMA entry queue of the requester. An arbiter uses the TPS values to select DMA entries off the various queues for incorporation into a “snapshot”. The arbiter then selects DMA entries from the snapshot in an order for servicing such that memory access overhead in accessing the memory is reduced. Only after all DMA entries of the snapshot have been serviced is another snapshot of entries selected. Maximum latency in servicing a queue is controlled by assigning each queue a time out value (TOV). If a queue times out, then that queue is moved up in the order of servicing.

Abstract: A system and method for selecting key-frames to generate a content-based visual summary of video and facilitate digital video browsing and indexing, which provides a real-time approach for key-frame selection irrespective of the available computation power. A method for selecting key-frames according to one aspect of the present invention is based on quantifiable measures such as the amount of motion and behavior of curves defined statistically or non-statistically, i.e. by finding the monotonically increasing segments of a curve, instead of thresholding the statistically defined image dissimilarity measures.

Abstract: In an editing system with an editing apparatus and a recording apparatus in mutually distant locations, a reproducing apparatus is at first connected with the editing apparatus. The reproducing apparatus outputs the reproduced image signal and the positional information, indicating the position of the image signal on the recording medium, to the editing apparatus. The editing apparatus generates program information, for controlling the reproducing operation of the reproducing apparatus, utilizing the image signal and the positional information, and outputs the program information to the reproducing apparatus. Then the reproducing apparatus is connected with the recording apparatus. Based on the program information outputted by the editing apparatus, the reproducing apparatus controls the reproducing operation of the reproducing apparatus itself and also controls the recording operation of the recording apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6504992
Abstract: When a video signal reproduced by a helical scan type video signal reproducing apparatus is displayed on the screen of a liquid crystal matrix circuit, a change in brightness on the screen is eliminated in a mode for displaying a trick reproduced image such as a noiseless search image, a still image or the like with respect to a mode for displaying a normally reproduced image, thus providing the user with displayed images causing a less feeling of strangeness. During normal reproduction, where a video signal is continuously written into a liquid crystal display circuit, the brightness of the liquid crystal display circuit is controlled based on the value in a reference brightness register set by the user. During trick reproduction, where a video signal is discontinuously written into the liquid crystal display circuit, the liquid crystal display circuit is controlled to display an image relatively darker than the value in the reference brightness register.
