Abstract: An apparatus, such as an optical equalizer, having variable wavelength characteristics. More specifically, the apparatus attenuates an input light, and includes a beam expander, a beam condenser and an attenuator positioned between the beam expander and the beam condenser. The beam expander converts the input light into a spectral beam propagating in a first direction and having wavelength components spatially separated in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The attenuator intersects the spectral beam and has a planer distribution of transmittance so that the spectral beam passes through the attenuator and is attenuated in accordance with the planer distribution of transmittance. The beam expander converts the attenuated spectral beam into an output light. The attenuator is movable in a plane which is not parallel to the first direction. For example, the attenuator can be movable in a plane which is substantially perpendicular to the first direction.

  • Patent number: 5231537
Abstract: A filter conversion device is employed in an optical system that is operative to locate one of a plurality of color filter units in an optical path frame member and is provided to support a plurality of filter units and is arranged so as to be movable in a predetermined plane between a light sending element and a light receiving element. Mechanisms for controlling the frame member to move horizontally and vertically in the plane are also provided. Thus, the desired filter unit is located in the optical path without requiring a large space for movement.

  • Patent number: 5210657
Abstract: A first optical attenuation filter is arranged in a predetermined optical path and attenuates light to be attenuated with a first variable attenuation amount. A second optical attenuation filter is arranged in the predetermined optical path and attenuates, with a second variable attenuation amount, the light which has been transmitted through the first optical attenuation filter. The first and second optical attenuation filters can be driven in the forward and reverse directions and each has an attenuation amount characteristic which changes monotonously in both the forward and reverse directions. An attenuation amount setting section sets a desired attenuation amount to the light to be attenuated. First and second drivers are coupled to drive the first and second optical attenuation filters in the forward and reverse directions, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5165078
Abstract: A radiation aperture system where two sets of apertures are distributed in ring sections of like radius on two parallel rings. As one ring is rotated with respect to its counterpart, one aperture of each ring will align to pass a radiation beam through both apertures. Only a single aperture pair is formed at each unique time, allowing sequential measurements of all combinations of both aperture openings during rotation without halting the rotation.

  • Patent number: 5161069
Abstract: A curvilinear motion type optical filter driving mechanism, comprising a lens-house, a filter holder, a motor, a driven gear, and a driving gear. The filter holder has an optical filter mounted thereon at the front and disposed in a curvilinear direction, and a rack at the back. Rotating the motor causes the drive gear to carry the optical filter, via the driven gear and the rack, to make a curvilinear motion over the lens of the lens-house.

  • Patent number: 5126886
Abstract: A color changer (20) comprising a component hue saturation filter (30) including an elongated flexible substrate (32) having a surface with a gradient axis (GA) and which includes a graded portion (G) supporting a uniform concentration of a selected hue filtering material (50) distributed in a continuously graded average density in beam-size areas around points along the gradient axis. The component hue saturation filters may be embodied in separate substrates positionable in parallel planes to be intersected serially by a beam of light. Alternately, dual-hue filters (68) may be formed by two primary hue component filters embodied in respective substrates each also embodying duplicate third primary hue component filters producing the same effects. Saturations of each selected hue of light appear evenly distributed in the output beam without the need for color components to be further commingled.

  • Patent number: 5079576
Abstract: This invention discloses an improvement of a filter apparatus for cameras and particularly discloses various arrangements for improving the filter apparatus for cameras in which, for example, an operating means for placing a filter in and taking it out of the optical path is provided so that the operating means automatically removes the filter from the optical path by stopping the operations of filter photography at the completion thereof. Thus, a photograph can be prevented from mistakenly being taken with the filter still in place in the optical path, and protective means for preventing damage of the filter surface is provided on the filter.
