Abstract: A system for presenting a demonstration of the speed of sound, includes a sound source that produces a sound wave; a viewing area positioned at a predetermined distance from the sound source; and a plurality of lights positioned between the sound source and the viewing area, wherein each of the plurality of lights undergoes a visible change, sequentially, from the sound source to the viewing area when a sound wave is produced by the sound source. The rate at which the plurality of lights are visibly changed is substantially equal to the speed of sound such that the sound wave reaches the viewing area at substantially the same time that a light of the plurality of lights that is closest to the viewing area is visibly changed.
