THIN-FILM MAGNETIC HEAD, METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME, HEAD GIMBAL ASSEMBLY, AND HARD DISK DRIVE
Publication number: 20120170154Abstract: A thin-film magnetic head is constructed such that a main magnetic pole layer, a write shield layer, a gap layer, and a thin-film coil are laminated on a substrate. The thin-film coil has a coil-layer. The coil-layer has a turn part arranged closer to an ABS than is a rear end part of the main magnetic pole layer farthest from the ABS. Regarding a substrate side coil-layer, arranged between the main magnetic pole layer and the substrate, of the coil-layer, a thickness of a non-corresponding magnetic pole part other than a magnetic pole corresponding part corresponding to an arrangement space of the main magnetic pole layer is larger than a thickness of the magnetic pole corresponding part.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 5, 2011Publication date: July 5, 2012Applicants: SAE MAGNETICS (H.K.) Patent number: 8000058Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a perpendicular recording magnetic head capable of reducing leakage magnetic fields from the soft magnetic films on the air bearing surface side and reducing the protrusion of the soft magnetic films in the direction of the air bearing surface side due to thermal deformation of the soft magnetic films. In one embodiment, the write functional section includes a coil conductor, second soft magnetic film pattern and first soft magnetic film pattern that cover the coil conductor from top and bottom and are magnetically coupled to each other, and a main magnetic pole piece determining a track width. The read functional section includes a reading element sandwiched between two magnetic shield films. A pedestal magnetic pole pattern is formed at the frontal end position of the first soft magnetic film pattern.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2005Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Tadayuki Iwakura, Youji Maruyama, Masafumi Mochizuki, Ichiro Ohdake

Patent number: 7764465Abstract: A thin-film magnetic head is capable of securing an insulating property and minimizing the projection of a recording element section due to heat expansion. The thin-film magnetic head includes a pair of magnetic layers disposed with a predetermined gap therebetween on a surface facing a recording medium. The layers are connected to each other along an inner part in a height direction from the medium-facing surface. A spiral recording coil is disposed between the pair of magnetic layers and wound around a connecting portion of the pair of magnetic layers. The recording coil includes a dense coil portion formed with a pitch smaller than that of the inner part in the height direction so as to be closer to the medium-facing surface than the connecting portion. An organic insulating layer is locally formed to fill coil gaps of the dense coil portion, and coil gaps other than those of the dense coil portion are filled with an inorganic insulating layer.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2007Date of Patent: July 27, 2010Assignee: TDK CorporationInventors: Sumihito Morita, Kiyoshi Kobayashi, Toru Takahashi

Patent number: 7692894Abstract: A thin film magnetic head is provided. The thin film magnetic head includes an upper coil wire group and a lower coil wire group. Two columns of coil contact groups that are formed on both end portions of individual coil wires of the upper coil wire group and the lower coil wire group, connect both end portions of the coil wires. An insulating resist layer buries a space between coil contacts of the coil contact groups. An inorganic insulating layer buries a space between the two columns of coil contact groups. The upper coil wire group, the lower coil wire group, and the two columns of coil contact groups form a thin film coil that applies a magnetic recording field to the magnetic material layer. The insulating resist layer and the inorganic insulating layer are located at the same lamination height as the two columns of coil contact groups.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2006Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignee: TDK CorporationInventor: Kiyoshi Kobayashi

Patent number: 7593183Abstract: A magnetic write pole having a structure that prevents thermally induced pole tip protrusion. The write head has a return pole with a magnetic pedestal formed at the air bearing surface (ABS) and a back gap at an end opposite the ABS. An electrically conductive write coil having a plurality of turns passes over the return pole. A fill layer of a material having a low coefficient of thermal expansion, such as alumina is disposed between the coil and the pedestal, and may extend over the top of the coil to the back gap. A photoresist coil insulation layer may be provided between the turns of the coil to insulate the turns of the coil from one another. The photoresist coil insulation layer can also extend to the back gap. A write pole, formed above the return pole and coil is magnetically connected with the back gap layer and return pole by a magnetic shaping layer.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2006Date of Patent: September 22, 2009Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Netherlands B.V.Inventors: Wen-Chien David Hsiao, Yimin Hsu, Edward Hin Pong Lee, Vladimir Nikitin, Katalin Pentek

Patent number: 7554763Abstract: A magnetic head includes a plurality of coil elements disposed in a space defined by a lower core layer, a pole layer, and a back gap layer. A coil insulator fills the space so as to cover the coil elements. The top face of the pole layer, the top face of the coil insulator, the top faces of the coil elements, and the top face of the back gap layer form a planarized plane. The coil elements are disposed on a recess formed on the lower core layer. The bottom faces of the coil elements are disposed at substantially the same height as the top face of the lower core layer. The top faces of the coil elements lie in the planarized plane.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2004Date of Patent: June 30, 2009Assignee: TDK CorporationInventor: Kiyoshi Sato
