Patent number: 8437103Abstract: A thin film magnetic recording head is fabricated by forming a substrate from opposing ferrite blocks which have a ceramic member bonded between them. This structure is then diced to form a plurality of columns, wherein each column has a ferrite/ceramic combination. Each column represents a single channel in the completed head. A block of ceramic is then cut to match the columned structure and the two are bonded together. The bonded structure is then cut or ground until a head is formed, having ceramic disposed between each channel. A ferrite back-gap is then added to each channel, minimizing the reluctance of the flux path. The thin film is patterned on the head to optimize various channel configurations.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2009Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: Advanced Research CorporationInventor: Matthew P. Patent number: 7920357Abstract: Provided is a thin-film magnetic head capable of writing data with high accuracy on a magnetic recording medium having high coercive force without heating. The head comprises an electromagnetic coil element comprising: a main magnetic pole; an auxiliary magnetic pole; and a write coil formed so as to pass through at least between the main magnetic pole and the auxiliary magnetic pole, for generating the write magnetic field. In this head, a part of the write coil has a layered structure of: a resonance coil layer for generating a resonance magnetic field having ferromagnetic resonance frequency of a magnetic recording layer of a magnetic recording medium or having a frequency in the vicinity thereof; and a write coil layer. And further, the resonance coil layer and the write coil layer sandwich an insulating layer therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2007Date of Patent: April 5, 2011Assignee: TDK CorporationInventors: Isamu Sato, Tetsuya Roppongi, Yuichi Watabe, Norikazu Ota, Hiroshi Ikeda, Mikio Matsuzaki

Patent number: 7633710Abstract: A magnetic head including an induction coil having coil turns that are disposed between two magnetic poles of the magnetic head. The coil turns include a lower coil turn portion and an upper coil turn portion. In fabricating the induction coil, the lower coil turn portion is fabricated first, and the upper coil turn portion is fabricated directly upon the lower coil turn portion. The lower coil turn portion may be fabricated using damascene methods and the upper coil turn portion may be fabricated utilizing photolithographic methods. The lower coil turn portion and the upper coil turn portion of the induction coil turns are electrically connected, such that the thickness of the overall induction coil turns is increased. As a result, the electrical resistance of the coil turns is decreased, and heat generated in the coil is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2006Date of Patent: December 15, 2009Assignee: Hitachi Global Storage Technologies B.V.Inventors: Edward Hin Pong Lee, Vladimir Nikitin
