Abstract: The present invention is to provide a digital video-audio signal recording and reproducing apparatus that allows the number of channels of audio data and the data width per sample to be changed corresponding to user's settings. 24-bit/sample audio data that is input as serial data to Ch 1 of the digital video-audio signal recording and reproducing apparatus is separated into high order 16 bits and low order eight bits. The high order 16 bits are recorded in a region of Ch 1 of a record medium. The low order eight bits are stored to a region of low order eight bits of Ch 3 paired with Ch 1 of the record medium. Mode information that represents that 24-bit data is separated into paired channels is added to record data each edit unit of video data. When dat is reproduced, data of paired channels is combined corresponding to the mode information so as to restore 24-bit data. Since the 24-bit data is treated as 16-bit data, the record format of 16-bit data can be used for the 24-bit data.

The one track seeks can operate the actuator bearing in a non-linear mode or can increase in the friction of the actuator bearing which leads to servo positioning inaccuracies. In the disk drive the logical block address (LBA) assignments are made so that when sequential addresses are allocated to two different tracks, the tracks are physically non-adjacent. Thus, when a sequential LBAs are read across a track boundary, the actuator is moved farther than would be required if the LBAs were assigned the adjacent tracks.

  • Patent number: 5825971
Abstract: A head arrangement and head offset are set so that the track pattern continuously recorded on a continuously running tape will be ordered in the sequence of recording when taken along the time dimension. In intermittent-feed still-speed recording, recording information is divided for recording, and the magnetic tape is fed momentarily by a distance equal to the tape amount recorded. In a helical scan magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus, intermittent still-speed recording is performed at prescribed intervals of time, and playback is performed with conditions that satisfy .vertline.v.vertline..ltoreq.r/N (N: positive integer, v: real number, r: positive real number) when the magnetic tape is played back at a speed v times as fast as normal playback speed and the rotary drum is rotated for playback at a speed r times as fast as recording speed.

  • Patent number: 5706145
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for providing an indexed audio tape. The method includes the step of recording data in a guard band interposed between and parallel to two signal tracks used to record audio signals on an audio tape. The recorded data is shifted to frequencies higher than the bandwidth of the audio signals. A plurality of programs are recorded onto the two signal tracks with spaces between the programs. A nonaudible program presence signal is recorded onto the two signal tracks coincident with the plurality of programs. The nonaudible program presence signal is not recorded in the spaces between the programs. A program directory is recorded onto the guard band just before the start of each program recorded on the two signal tracks. In an embodiment, text is recorded onto the guard band parallel to and corresponding to audio in the programs recorded on the two signal tracks of the audio tape.

Abstract: A video signal is divided into a plurality of partial signals. A time code signal is generated which is incremented every field or frame of the video signal. One of predetermined different corrective signals or calibration signals is sequentially selected in response to the time code signal. The time code signal and the selected corrective signal are interposed in segments of the partial signals which relate to a given line of the field or frame to convert the partial signals into composite signals. The composite signals are recorded on the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 5606427
Abstract: A still video device in which image signals corresponding to one frame are divided into a plurality of parts. The divided image signals are stored in memory recording areas. The divided image signals are time-expanded to be recorded in a magnetic disk, and further, the divided image signals may be time-expanded and subsampled to be recorded in the magnetic disk. Due to this time-expansion or subsampling, the bandwidth of the image signals recorded in the magnetic disk is narrower than image signals inputted to the still video device. Namely, image signals having a bandwidth broader than that of the inputted image signals can be recorded in the magnetic disk.

Abstract: The present invention relates to video recording and playback techniques and devices which create relative movement between a laser and an optical medium such as a flexible optical tape to permit recording of relatively high bandwidth signals. Further, the present invention relates to video recording and playback techniques and devices which optimize relative movement between a laser source and the optical medium in a cost-effective manner. Data spots having a set of predetermined feature sizes (i.e., set of varying hole sizes) can thus be recorded at a rate useful for high bandwidth signals (e.g., television video signals). Further, recording on a flexible optical medium (e.g., optical tape) can be performed in a manner which optimizes space efficiency on the tape.
