  • Patent number: 7983007
Abstract: In a magnetic tape apparatus of the present invention, a magnetic head unit having magnetic elements capable of recording or reproducing information with respect to a magnetic tape includes a movable member that includes a magnetic element and has such a size that the movable member comes into contact with the magnetic tape over an entire region in a width direction, and is placed so as to move in the width direction of the magnetic tape, and a stationary member that is placed at a position adjacent to the movable member in a magnetic tape transport direction, wherein the movable member is moved in the width direction of the magnetic tape by a tracking servo mechanism during a tracking servo control. According to this configuration, a magnetic tape apparatus excellent in a tracking precision can be provided, in which even a magnetic tape with a high friction coefficient does not move following the movement of a magnetic head unit in the width direction.

  • Patent number: 7688979
Abstract: A transceiver comprising a data processing module, a security processing module, a medium access control (MAC) module, a dirty-paper-coding (DPC) module, and a smart antenna processor. The data processing module provides user data streams to the MAC module and channel state information to the smart antenna processor. The security processing module generates security data and provides the security data to the MAC module. The security module also provides security policy data to the smart antenna processor. The MAC module determines data transmission rates for the user data streams and the security data. In addition, the MAC module allocates the data streams and security data to transmission channels for transmission. The DPC module encodes the security data onto the user data streams. The smart antenna processor generates pre-coding coefficients used by the DPC module and transmits the security encoded data streams.

  • Patent number: 6522497
Abstract: A disk drive is provided which uses a disk having a maximal limit cylinder group formed based on an initially recorded servo data before being assembled in a drive body. A CPU sets an actually usable data recording area on the disk by seeking the head in a radial direction over the disk. Further, the CPU allows the generation of a translation table for obtaining a correspondence between inherent physical cylinder address information of an effective cylinder group contained in the set data recording area and logical cylinder address information set to identify the effective cylinder group and allows the translation table to be stored in a memory. The CPU refers to the translation table when, in response to an access request from a host system, control is made to position a head to a target position, and finds-physical cylinder address information corresponding to the target cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6501613
Abstract: A method and apparatus for moving a transducer across a disk surface so that the transducer has a generalized Fourier series seek acceleration trajectory. In one embodiment, the generalized Fourier series seek acceleration trajectory includes tuned coefficients that are determined empirically. The generalized Fourier series seek trajectories provide improved performance and robustness of hard disk drive servomechanisms, resulting in shorter seek time. Additionally, the hard disk drive is more immune to external disturbances, and the acoustic noise caused by seeking is reduced. In one embodiment, the duration of acceleration and deceleration are equal. In another embodiment, the duration of acceleration and deceleration are unequal, resulting in more flexibility to decrease residual vibrations of mechanical components, and further reduction of seek time.
