Abstract: In a magnetic tape apparatus of the present invention, a magnetic head unit having magnetic elements capable of recording or reproducing information with respect to a magnetic tape includes a movable member that includes a magnetic element and has such a size that the movable member comes into contact with the magnetic tape over an entire region in a width direction, and is placed so as to move in the width direction of the magnetic tape, and a stationary member that is placed at a position adjacent to the movable member in a magnetic tape transport direction, wherein the movable member is moved in the width direction of the magnetic tape by a tracking servo mechanism during a tracking servo control. According to this configuration, a magnetic tape apparatus excellent in a tracking precision can be provided, in which even a magnetic tape with a high friction coefficient does not move following the movement of a magnetic head unit in the width direction.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a magnetic head inspection system having a simple configuration capable of inspecting magnetic heads. According to one embodiment, the magnetic head inspection system comprises an inspection module which is provided with a magnetic disk where servo data including track identifier information are recorded, a spindle motor, a carriage having a mount structure to which a head assembly containing a magnetic head is secured, a voice coil motor and a main circuit section. An inspection circuit section instructs the main circuit section to execute control so as to move the magnetic head to a specific track and perform a certain read write operation by the magnetic head in order to inspect the magnetic head.

Abstract: A hard disk drive includes an actuator arm pivoting over a disk around a pivot shaft as a center of rotation to allow a read/write head to access data on the disk, a bobbin provided at the opposite side to the read/write head with respect to a pivot shaft holder that rotatably supports the pivot shaft, and a voice coil coupled to the bobbin. The bobbin includes a bobbin body coupled an end portion of the voice coil adjacent to the pivot shaft holder, and a plurality of bobbin legs extending from an end portion of the bobbin body toward areas of the other end portion of the voice coil that are separated from each other, and coupled to the areas of the other end portion of the voice coil that are separated from each other.
Abstract: A clamp including an inverted spring portion and a plurality of tabs about a circumference of an inner portion of the clamp. The inverted spring portion of the clamp is insertable into a groove of a clamping interface between a flange and an outer portion thereof to align the plurality of tabs proximate to the flange. As described, the clamp provides a low profile interface for clamping discs to a spindle assembly which snap fits into the groove to provide a screwless clamp interface. Other features and benefits that characterize embodiments of the present invention will be apparent upon reading the following detailed description and review of the associated drawings.

Abstract: A transceiver comprising a data processing module, a security processing module, a medium access control (MAC) module, a dirty-paper-coding (DPC) module, and a smart antenna processor. The data processing module provides user data streams to the MAC module and channel state information to the smart antenna processor. The security processing module generates security data and provides the security data to the MAC module. The security module also provides security policy data to the smart antenna processor. The MAC module determines data transmission rates for the user data streams and the security data. In addition, the MAC module allocates the data streams and security data to transmission channels for transmission. The DPC module encodes the security data onto the user data streams. The smart antenna processor generates pre-coding coefficients used by the DPC module and transmits the security encoded data streams.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided to facilitate building of a disk stack for inclusion in a magnetic disk drive. A spindle is provided which comprises first and second disk contacts. A mechanism is provided to bias an inner diameter of a stack of plural disks toward both the first disk contact and the second disk contact. The spindle may comprise one or a pair of lateral protrusions. The apex of each such spindle lateral protrusions may comprise one or both of the disk contacts. In addition, or alternatively, the inner diameter of a disk, to be inserted over the spindle, may comprise one or a pair of lateral protrusions. The apexes of such disk lateral protrusions may comprise one or both of the first disk contact and the second disk contact.
Abstract: A disk drive is provided which uses a disk having a maximal limit cylinder group formed based on an initially recorded servo data before being assembled in a drive body. A CPU sets an actually usable data recording area on the disk by seeking the head in a radial direction over the disk. Further, the CPU allows the generation of a translation table for obtaining a correspondence between inherent physical cylinder address information of an effective cylinder group contained in the set data recording area and logical cylinder address information set to identify the effective cylinder group and allows the translation table to be stored in a memory. The CPU refers to the translation table when, in response to an access request from a host system, control is made to position a head to a target position, and finds-physical cylinder address information corresponding to the target cylinder.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for moving a transducer across a disk surface so that the transducer has a generalized Fourier series seek acceleration trajectory. In one embodiment, the generalized Fourier series seek acceleration trajectory includes tuned coefficients that are determined empirically. The generalized Fourier series seek trajectories provide improved performance and robustness of hard disk drive servomechanisms, resulting in shorter seek time. Additionally, the hard disk drive is more immune to external disturbances, and the acoustic noise caused by seeking is reduced. In one embodiment, the duration of acceleration and deceleration are equal. In another embodiment, the duration of acceleration and deceleration are unequal, resulting in more flexibility to decrease residual vibrations of mechanical components, and further reduction of seek time.
