  • Patent number: 10649682
Abstract: Described is a deduplicated storage system that may perform a focused sanitization process by reducing the number of data storage containers that must be sanitized. The system leverages additional characteristics of the files that need to be sanitized such as an initial storage date (e.g. data breach date) of when a sensitive file (e.g. file to be sanitization) was actually stored on the deduplicated storage system. By maintaining a creation date of data containers, the system may limit sanitization to those containers having a creation date on or after the initial storage date of the sensitive file. Accordingly, the system is capable of performing a more focused overwriting of data thereby improving the overall efficiency of the sanitization process.

  • Patent number: 9892041
Abstract: Various methods and systems for optimizing cache consistency are disclosed. For example, one method involves writing data to a file during a write transaction. The file is stored in a persistent storage device and cached in a non-volatile storage device. The method determines if an in-memory flag associated with the persistent storage device set. If the in-memory flag is not set, the method increases a generation count associated with the persistent storage device before a write transaction is performed on the file. The method then sets the in-memory flag before performing the write transaction on the file. In other examples, the method involves using a persistent flag associated with the non-volatile storage device to maintain cache consistency during a data freeze related to the taking of a snapshot by synchronizing generation counts associated with the persistent storage device and the non-volatile storage device.

Abstract: A data storage device can employ a transducing head that accesses data stored on a data storage medium as directed by a controller. In response to experiencing a power disruption, the controller can predict at least one performance metric lost due to the power disruption and subsequently compensate for the power disruption by assuming the at least one predicted performance metric is correct.

  • Patent number: 9716735
Abstract: Embodiments provide efficient delivery of multiple media channels to in-transport terminals, for example, to reduce channel zapping delay in a bandwidth efficient manner. For example, an in-transport media (ITM) server can distribute multiple channel offerings to ITM clients in a transport craft. Meanwhile, the ITM server can monitor which channel offerings are presently being consumed via the ITM clients, and can transmit feedback to a remote media server, accordingly. Based on the feedback, the ITM server can receive the channel offerings from the remote media server, in such a way that one or more of the channel offerings is received as a low-fidelity instance when not presently being consumed via any of the ITM clients, and one or more of the channel offerings is received as a high-fidelity instance when presently being consumed via at least one of the ITM clients.

  • Patent number: 9705926
Abstract: Media files are often tagged, such as by XML or other tagging paradigms, in order to indicate aspects of certain portions of the media file. Disclosed herein, security policy tagging is provided that supports a logically nested or hierarchical structure. Tags may be time- and/or event-altered, such as when a user who is denied access at one point in time may be granted access at a later point in time. The need to amend the security policy based upon the passage of time is reduced or eliminated as portions, or sub-portions, of a media file that may be selectively tagged with security tags may be presented or downloaded based upon the security policy. The a security policy may incorporate rules that change permissions upon the passage of time or the occurrence of an event, without requiring the modification of the presentation, the security tags of the presentation portion, or the security tag associated with a parent portion of the presentation or the presentation itself.

Abstract: A data storage device is disclosed comprising a disk, a head, and a shock sensor comprising a first terminal and a second terminal. A first bias signal is applied signal to the first terminal of the shock sensor and a second bias signal is applied to the second terminal of the shock sensor. An oscillating signal is generated by increasing the first bias signal and decreasing the second bias signal, and a resonant frequency of the shock sensor is detected based on the oscillating signal. A physical shock affecting the head actuated over the disk is detected based on a response of the shock sensor to the physical shock and based on the detected resonant frequency of the shock sensor.

Abstract: A request for writing a first index information to a first partition of a serial storage medium of a serial system is received. The serial storage medium includes a first partition for writing the first index information including a first index position, a second partition for storing a data set, the data set including a second index information including a second index position, a memory for determining the second index position, and a module for writing the first index position. A beginning position of the first index is written on the first partition. A determination is made whether the beginning of the first index position is proximate to the second index position. In response to the beginning of the first index position being proximate to the second index position, an interrupted index position is registered. A dummy index is written to the first partition at the interrupted index position.

  • Patent number: 9467658
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a method of descrambling digital multimedia content starts by sending an out-of-band request for encrypted control data to a headend. A descrambler integrated circuit may then receive digital program data in a scrambled, format and the encrypted control data. The encrypted control data may then be decrypted entirely within the descrambler integrated circuit using a multiple-step decryption process starting with a unique key permanently stored in the descrambler integrate circuit and using the partial decryption of control data from the previous decryption step to generate a key to decrypt subsequent encrypted control data. The scrambled digital program data may then be descrambled in the descrambler integrated circuit using the decrypted control data from the last decryption step. Other embodiments are described.
