Recording For Changing Duration, Frequency Or Redundant Content Of An Analog Signal Patents (Class 360/8)
  • Patent number: 11314439
Abstract: A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: estimating, by the computer system, a waiting time for copy target data to be transferred from the source medium. The waiting time includes an estimated time for locating and reading the copy target data from the source medium. The method also includes selecting, by the computer system, migration target data on the source medium based on whether migration of data to the target medium is expected to be finished within the waiting time. The selecting is based at least in part on comparing a size of the data and an allowable size calculated based on the waiting time and an estimated write transfer rate to the target medium. The method further includes migrating, by the computer system, the migration target data from the source medium to the target medium.

Abstract: Systems and processes for managing memory compression security to mitigate security risks related to compressed memory page access are disclosed herein. A system for managing memory compression security includes a system memory and a memory manager. The system memory includes an uncompressed region configured to store a plurality of uncompressed memory pages and a compressed region configured to store a plurality of compressed memory pages. The memory manager identifies a memory page in the uncompressed region of the system memory as a candidate for compression and estimate a decompression time for a compressed version of the identified memory page. The memory manager determines whether the estimated decompression time is less than a constant decompression time. The memory manager, based on a determination that the estimated decompression time is less than the constant decompression time, compresses the memory page and writes the compressed memory page in the compressed region.

The mobile device presents a first message to prompt a first user to start recording on the mobile device in order to capture at least one of audio and video information on the mobile device. After the first user has completed the recording on the mobile device, the mobile device then presents a second message to prompt a second user to start recording on the mobile device to capture at least one of audio and video information on the mobile device. The processor determines whether or not the two recordings were performed within a predetermined time interval. If the two recordings were performed within a predetermined time interval, the processor merges the two recordings into one media document, and the media document is then stored within the storage device.

Abstract: The flash memory controller compresses data in response to a write request. On condition that there is a compression effect with respect to the compressed data, the flash memory controller writes the compressed data to the base area of a physical block of a flash memory. As physical pages assigned to the physical block, the flash memory controller reduces the physical pages assigned to the base area from 102 down to 59, and increases the physical pages assigned to the update area from 26 up to 69. Therefore, it is possible to suppress exhaustion of physical pages which are assigned to the update area, to reduce the number of erases of the physical block, and to consequently prolong device operating life.

Abstract: A signal reconstruction technique is used to correct for wow and flutter in analog audio recordings. Elements of the recording are used to generate a signal for correcting the output. Involves locating modulated entities such as bias signal (e.g. frequency-modulated, amplitude-modulated, or phase-modulated entities) in the recording, extracting them, and utilizing them as a carrier to synchronize to a master clock, using the irregularity of the anomaly to indicate the speed and pitch information to be corrected. A carrier frequency is determined and applied to a digitized form of the recording. This may be performed even in the absence of a prescribed reference code or tone, such as a pilot tone laid down purposefully at the moment of recording. In the case of signals presumed to have an error in the carrier, a corresponding signal is buffered, and in the case of a presumed error, a last known signal is used for the duration of the error.

Abstract: An input signal is recorded in a recording tape ? by converting the input signal to a record signal through the modulation performed at the timing corresponding to the previously-specified number of tracks per division of signal by using input-signal converting means 1,2, 3, and 10 and then rotating a head cylinder 8 at a revolving speed lower than the revolving speed of the head cylinder 8 corresponding to the timing for modulation and corresponding to a recording rate adjusted by the recording-rate adjusting means 12 by using recording means 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Thereby, it is possible to make the configuration of a head cylinder same even for a system in which the number of tracks per division of signal differs due to the difference in compressibility.

Abstract: A system for scaling resolution of an input stream includes an input for receiving the image input stream which passes the image input stream to a frame buffer. The frame buffer holds one or more image frames such that a router can decorrelate the image input stream. Decorrelation may be accomplished by spatially transforming the frames of the input image stream into frequency components, temporally transforming frames of the input image stream or through color component decomposition. The decorrelated components are each passed to a processor which performs quantization and entropy encoding of the components. Each of the compressed components are passed to memory for storage. Thus, real-time throughput can be increased above the rate of the individual processing elements through decorrelation.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for recording digital data transport stream units such as application packets in sectors of a disk type recording medium such as a digital versatile disk and create and record management information for the recorded transport stream units. In case that a single transport stream unit is divided and then recorded across two sectors, header information of the preceding sector including management information which is created corresponding to each transport stream unit is generated, and the size of the header information and transport stream units to be recorded in the preceding sector is compared with the size of a sector. If the size difference is 1 byte, an invalid header data distinguishable from normal application header extension information is inserted to maintain the correspondence between each transport stream unit to be recorded in the preceding sector and its management information.

Abstract: A tape drive apparatus employing, as a recording medium, a tape cassette (1) including a memory (4) in a cassette half unit (6) having accommodated a magnetic tape (3). When recording the application data on the magnetic tape (3), the application data to be recorded on the magnetic tape (3) is written in an area of a preset size of the memory (4), beginning from the leading end of the application data to be recorded on the magnetic tape (3). In this manner, at least the management information located at the leading end of the application data can be stored in the memory (4). In the dubbing apparatus, for passing output data read from a CD through a CD drive for compression of the data and transferring the compressed data for recording to an HD drive, an HD TOC being breakpoint information is generated based on specified information indicative of a track break of output data read from the HD drive. The HD drive generates a FAT based on the HD TOC. In the HD drive, the dubbed data can be managed per track accurately and properly without having to monitor any information indicative of each track break such as sub Q data synchronously with a stream of dubbing data.

  • Patent number: 6563657
Abstract: A hard disk drive for a computer system has at least two actuators for reading data from or writing data to the disks. The actuators may be configured to support the different methods of data access required of them. For example, if large quantities of sequential data are performed, one operation uses both actuators to increase throughput. However, if mostly random operations are to be performed, then independent usage of the actuators is preferred. These two methods of usage can be supported simultaneously, and can even be dictated by the user. The tracking format of the actuators can be configured such that the next logical track is physically located under a head on a different actuator to improve sequential operation. The actuators also may be utilized in a dual-channel configuration so that data can be written to both actuators at the same time, or read back at the same time to improve throughput. In addition, either of these configurations can be selected on a transfer-by-transfer basis by the user.

When the command designating the data transfer rate is received, the writing mode employed for writing data to a disk is automatically switched. The host PC already has the transfer rate to be sent. It is unnecessary to newly prepare a special command to notify the controller in order for switching between the writing modes. Therefore, versatility will not be impaired.

  • Patent number: 6532121
Abstract: A compression system stores meta-data in the compressed record to allow better access and manage merging data. Markers are added to the compression stream to indicate various things. Each compressed record has a marker to indicate the start of the compressed data. These markers have sector number as well as the relocation block numbers embedded in their data. A second marker is used to indicate free space. When compressed data is stored on the disk drive, free space is reserved so that future compression of the same, or modified, data has the ability to expand slightly without causing the data to be written to a different location. Also the compressed data can shrink and the remaining space can be filled in with this free space marker. A third type of marker is the format pattern marker. Compression algorithms generally compress the format pattern very tightly. However, the expectation is that the host will write useful data to the storage device.
