  • Patent number: 11495969
Abstract: A method for detection of a sub-synchronous oscillation in a power system includes measuring a three-phase measurement signal of an electric system value, analyzing the measurement signal to detect an oscillation component of the measurement signal having an oscillation frequency lower than a system frequency of the power system, deciding whether the detected oscillation component at the oscillation frequency qualifies as a sub-synchronous oscillation, and disconnecting a generator from the power system that might be affected by the sub-synchronous oscillation. To detect sub-synchronous oscillations with low computational effort and good accuracy, an amplitude of each phase of the oscillation component is calculated and compared against a threshold, a sub-synchronous oscillation is detected upon exceeding the threshold during a given time delay, and a fault signal is generated upon detecting a sub-synchronous oscillation. A device having a processing unit is also provided.

  • Patent number: 11177645
Abstract: A transformer system including a transformer including a set of wye windings, a three-phase current transformer, a neutral-current transformer, and a controller. The three-phase current transformer outputs a first signal indicative of a three-phase current conducting through the set of wye windings and the three-phase current transformer. The neutral-current transformer couples the current flowing from the ground to the neutral node of the transformer, and outputs a second signal indicative of a neutral current conducting from the ground node to the neutral node of the transformer. Using an appropriate second-harmonic termination of its output matching network, the required systematic peak current of the final stage is reduced such that the PA functions as a class-E/F2 switched-mode PA at saturation. In addition, low/moderate magnetic coupling factor transformers in the intermediate stages enable the PA to reach a high power added efficiency (PAE) and bandwidth product. Transformers of low/moderate coupling are also utilized in the preliminary stages of the PA to improve the overall bandwidth. In addition, the PA exploits the different behavior of the output impedance matching network for differential mode (DM) and common mode (CM) excitations. The PA is also stabilized against the combination of DM and CM oscillation modes. The PA also provides a technique to stabilize transformer-based mm-wave amplifiers against various modes of undesired oscillations.

  • Patent number: 8369059
Abstract: An exemplary method is disclosed for disturbance current compensation for an electrical system by a disturbance current compensation device, which electrical system has a voltage source and a series circuit which is connected via a conductor in parallel with the voltage source. The series circuit has an inductance and a capacitance, with the inductance being connected in series with the capacitance via a conductor. To compensate for disturbance currents, the conductor for the connection of the voltage source to the series circuit of the inductance with the capacitance, and/or the conductor of the series circuit between the inductance and the capacitance, can be surrounded by a ring (e.g., a portion of the conductor can be substantially surrounded by the ring) which can be magnetized. The ring includes an air gap of the disturbance current compensation device. A compensation voltage can be applied by magnetization of the ring.
