Patent number: 6674651Abstract: An electronic equipment has an enclosure, a backplane board, a connector, a child board, a connection plate on the bottom edge of the child board mating with the connector, a guide, a rack gear, and a pinion gear. The guide moves within a child board housing part inside the enclosure between an upper and a lower position along a substantially vertical direction. At the upper position, the guide slidably mates with the child board and guides the child board to a temporary attachment position substantially vertically, and movement from the upper to the lower position causes the child board at the temporary attachment position to move substantially vertically to a fully attached position. The rack gear fixed relative to the guide, and the rotating shaft has a pinion gear meshing with the rack gear, and is supported so as to rotate freely relative to the enclosure.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2002Date of Patent: January 6, 2004Assignee: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.Inventors: Hiroaki Momiyama, Takao Mokutani

Patent number: 6650533Abstract: A computer system with a pluggable drive carrier assembly comprises a cabinet and a circuit board disposed within the cabinet. The circuit board, such as a base board, has a number of connectors attached to a first surface. A drive unit such as a hard disk drive is secured within a carrier. A logic connector and a power connector are adapted to attach to the drive. A flexible circuit assembly connects the logic connector and the power connector to a blind plug. The blind plug is adapted to mate with any of the number of connectors. A cam surface and lever arrangement is used to urge into engagement the blind plug and the selected one of the number of connectors. The logic connector and the power connector both have a number of contacts that extend in a direction generally parallel to the first surface of the circuit board such that a backplane is not required and can be eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2002Date of Patent: November 18, 2003Assignee: 3ware, Inc.Inventors: Robert B. Patent number: 6625019Abstract: A subassembly includes a plurality of card guides formed to receive card assemblies and also to conduct air for cooling purposes to improve cooling of components on the card guide. The card guides are particularly formed to place the cards in a location to facilitate airflow and to more evenly distribute the airflow. The invention further includes a method for designing the card guides to achieve the stated functionality. The method of designing the card guides includes determining a first and a second volume of space that is desired in relation to the amount of expected heat that is to be generated within the first and second volumes of space.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2002Date of Patent: September 23, 2003Assignee: White Rock NetworksInventors: Joseph Steinman, Greg Lowe

Patent number: 6597584Abstract: An ejector assembly is provided. The ejector assembly is detachably coupled to a circuit board to allow the circuit board to be locked in a chassis and separated from the chassis. The ejector assembly comprises a base portion and a locking portion. The base portion is rotatably coupled to the circuit board via a connector. The locking portion is capable of locking the circuit board into place when the ejector assembly is moved from a first position to a second position while the circuit board is in the chassis. In an alternative embodiment, the ejector assembly further comprises a holder to hold a number of cables.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2000Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Assignee: Extreme Networks, Inc.Inventors: Brian Ray, Alice Meng, Dan Harden, Robert Riccomini, Paul Briel, Richard Schuler, Jay Pochop, Andy Moorwood

Patent number: 6592195Abstract: A cover is operable to seat and unseat electronic components. The cover is detached from an enclosure exposing an access opening. An electronic component, such as an expansion card, is inserted by an operator into guide rails housed within the opening. A first catch mechanism of the cover pivotally engages the opening so as to form a lever arm. A second catch mechanism connects with a mating catch of the electronic component. The component traverses the guide rails according to the rotation of the cover. The mechanical advantage realized by the cover overcomes the forces associated with seating and detaching connector pins of the electronic component with sockets of an expansion bus. The cover detaches from both the component and the enclosure prior to being repositioned to overlap the opening.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2000Date of Patent: July 15, 2003Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Matthew Allen Butterbaugh, Don Alan Gilliland, James Larry Peacock

Patent number: 6582133Abstract: An interconnection module for holding and interconnecting optoelectronic cards is provided. It includes an optical midplane which accommodates and flexibly interconnects N optoelectronic cards on one side of the midplane and M cards on the other side of the midplane. Optical connectors, which are arranged on the midplane and on the cards, provide arrangement of cards on the midplane in one of the two positions, in the first position the cards on opposite sides of the midplane being parallel to each other, and in the second position the cards being perpendicular to each other. Preferably, each of the N cards on one side is connected to a subset of cards on the other side, the number of cards in the subset being variable for each of the N cards and less or equal to M in total. Additionally, a backplane section of the module, having a plurality of connectors joined via laminated strands, may be added as an extension of the midplane to interconnect any required number of cards on same side of the midplane.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2001Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: Tropic Networks Inc.Inventors: Mark Roy Harris, David Andrew Knox
