Diverse Light Generators Patents (Class 362/228)
  • Patent number: 8277078
Abstract: A light emitting device includes: a light source unit which has a first and a second LED which are connected in parallel and emit lights of different colors, respectively. The lights of the first and the second LED are mixed to provide an emission light of the light source unit when an operating voltage is applied. The light source unit further has a resistor which is connected in series to the first LED to make forward current changing characteristics of the first and the second LED depending on change in the operating voltage to be different from each other, so that a required luminous flux-color temperature property, in which change in a color temperature of the emission light is made to depend on change in a luminous flux of the emission light, is obtained while the first and the second LED are turned on by applying the operating voltage.

  • Publication number: 20120116373
Abstract: The invention relates to a light application apparatus (1) for applying light to an object (3). A light source (4) generates processing light (2) and sensing light (5), which are coupled into the object (3). A light detector (8) detects the sensing light (5) after having left the object (3), and a control unit (9) controls the light source (4) such that processing light (2) in a processing time interval and sensing light (5) in a sensing time interval are alternately generated. Since processing light and sensing light are generated alternately, the generation of the processing light and of the sensing light is decoupled, i.e. the processing light can be optimized for processing purposes and the sensing light can be optimized for sensing purposes. This allows improving the quality of sensing the object and, thus, the quality of controlling the application of light depending on properties of the object.

  • Patent number: 8132951
Abstract: An endoscope system comprises first and second emitters, a fiber, and a controller. The first emitter emits illumination light to a photographic subject. The second emitter emits infrared light. Emission intensity of the second emitter is stronger than that of the first emitter. The fiber has a tip which moves in a spiral when viewed from the photographic subject during scan periods. The controller controls emission timing of the first and second emitters. Light emitted by the first and second emitters is cast from the tip of the fiber onto the photographic subject. The second emitter emits in a predetermined period of one of the scan periods, based on control of the emission timing, so as to shine infrared light with the second emitter to at least one part of the photographic subject, in order to perform marking.

  • Patent number: 8070323
Abstract: A light fixture allows individual light bulbs to be arranged in compact fashion to maximize the number of bulbs per given area in the fixture. To facilitate replacement or exchange of the bulbs, the bulbs are mounted in alternating succession on a pair of separately movable supports, reorientation of which serves to remove the bulbs from the tight packed arrangement, to one in which the bulbs are sufficiently separated from one another to allow hand access for removal and installation of the bulbs. A distinct aspect of the aforementioned feature of the invention independent of the movable supports resides in the ability to utilize two of more of the fixtures to multiply the light produced. Advantageously, the fixtures can be arranged in direct physical series, side by side, or to form an array extending in orthogonal directions.

  • Patent number: 8066417
Abstract: Different arrangements for improving the coupling-in efficiency between an LED assembly and a light guide are disclosed. In a first arrangement, a substantially planar end of a light guide is seated on a perimeter wall of a support that encloses a LED assembly, and a reflecting surface enhances coupling efficiency of a light guide. Alternative arrangements use a separate coupler disposed between the LED assembly and the light guide, which coupler has a paraboloid or aspheroid conformation to develop substantially collimated light that is directed into the light guide. The cavity around the LED assembly and within the coupler, may be air or a material having an index of refraction that closely matches the index of refraction of the light guide material.

  • Patent number: 8066391
Abstract: A luminary has a central lamp, an emergency lamp and a control box. The emergency lamp is ring-shaped and mounted around a light-emitting end of the central lamp and has a base and a circuit board. The circuit board has an LED set and a cable set connected to the LED set. The control box is electrically connected to cable set of the circuit board, adapted to connect to an AC power and has a battery. The control box drives the LED set when an outage of the AC power occurs. Since emergency illumination is provided by the emergency lamp and is independent of normal illumination provided by the central lamp, battery power for emergency illumination can be kept from being quickly consumed by the central lamp that is usually power-consuming.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are apparatus, methods, and systems for deriving composite beams from a plurality of light sources such as LEDs. Optical units comprising a plurality of light sources, each source having an associated optic which is individually positionable, are developed using optimization techniques that allow for lighting different target areas in an effective manner by rotating or otherwise positioning the reflectors, refractive lenses, TIR lenses, or other lens types to create a composite beam. The apparatus, methods, and systems of lighting herein make it possible to widely vary the types of beams from an available fixture using a small number of optics and fixtures. In some cases, by using a combination of individual beam patterns from the same or different types of light sources, a small set of individual optics may be sufficient to create a majority of the typical and specialized composite beams needed to meet the needs of most lighting projects and target areas.

Abstract: A system provides white light having a selectable spectral characteristic (e.g. a selectable color temperature) using an optical integrating cavity to combine energy of different wavelengths from different sources with white light. The cavity has a diffusely reflective interior surface and an aperture for allowing emission of combined light. Control of the intensity of emission of the sources sets the amount of primary color light of each wavelength added to the substantially white input light output and thus determines a spectral characteristic of the white light output through the aperture. A variety of different elements may optically process the combined light output, such a deflector, a variable iris, a lens, a variable focusing lens system, a collimator, a holographic diffuser and combinations thereof.

Abstract: A street light that uses both a low-pressure sodium vapor bulb and a metal halide bulb is disclosed. The combination of these two light bulbs creates an efficient light source that is highly effective in bad weather conditions as well as able to provide good color differentiation. Further, the street light can be battery powered, where the batteries are recharged by solar cells, wind turbines, or both. A self-sufficient cost-effective street light is produced that uses renewable energy to provide light that has high penetration and wide color spectrum characteristics.
