Abstract: A compact portable fluorescent lighting unit provides concentrated even coverage illumination for many visual arts, theater, studio or location applications. Beam width is conveniently user-adjustable without tools, typically in three steps: 60, 70 and 90 degrees. A pair of identical lighting cells are stacked one above the other; each cell can utilize any one of a variety of fluorescent lamps providing powerful illumination. Each cell has an efficient reflector and provision for beam width selection by varying the spacing of the lamp from the rear of the reflector via easily adjustable socket/lamp support brackets. A welded aluminum mounting yoke, with arms swivel-attached to opposite ends of the housing, can be set to any desired orientation for beam-aiming and locked in place to the housing by a user knob. • Patent number: 6894443
Abstract: A stage lighting lamp unit includes a processor for receiving control data from a remote console. Beam orientation data for the lamp unit is passed to the lamp in the form of the x, y and z co-ordinates of a point in space through which the beam is to pass. The processor divides the required lamp travel into a number of stages dependent on execution duration data sent with the position data, and calculates, for each stage, a new value for pan and tilt angles for the lamp. These values are passed to pan and tilt controlling co-processors which control servo-motors for pan and tilt operation. The lamp unit also incorporates a rotatable shutter for interrupting the lamp beam when required. The shutters of all the lamps in a system can be instructed from the remote console to open and close in synchronism, thereby providing a stroboscopic effect.

  • Patent number: 6863417
Abstract: This invention provides an optically controlled dimmer (optically controlled light adjustment device), more particularly, an optically controlled dimmer having a mechanism capable of detecting light reflected from an object in a short distance and to cause a driving circuit to perform ON-OFF action and to adjust the intensity of light in several stages. The mechanism includes an ultra red ray transmitter to perform the control. A transmitter and a receiver are disposed in parallel in a recess of a casing having a panel. The panel has one hole for transmitting control signal light, and another hole for receiving reflected signal light. The dimmer can be activated by blocking the signal light transmitted from the dimmer by hand, to produce a reflected signal light to be received by the receiver. The received reflected signal light is reformed by a stage control circuit and a switching circuit to perform ON-OFF actions. As a result, the intensity of light is controlled in stages.

One embodiment can include a light holder having a housing, a mounting bracket coupled to the housing, a support member rotatably attached to the mounting bracket, and a lock to restrict the mounting bracket from rotating relative to the support member about an axis of rotation. In another embodiment, a method is provided for adjusting a light assembly. The method includes removing a lock from a first lock receiver in a mounting bracket and a second lock receiver in a support member; rotating the mounting bracket and a light assembly attached to the mounting bracket as a unit so that the light is aimed at a selected orientation; aligning a third lock receiver in the mounting bracket with the second lock receiver in the support member; and placing the lock in the third lock receiver of the mounting bracket and the second lock receiver of the support member.

Abstract: A remote-control modular lighting system utilizing a directional wireless remote control for the selective adjustment and programming of individual lighting modules is disclosed. Individual lighting modules may be selected for adjustment by momentarily pointing the remote control at the lighting module to be adjusted. Subsequent adjustments may be done without aiming at the lamp, allowing the operators attention to be on the subject being lit. For home or retail applications, control functions may include aiming of the light, switching on and off the light, and dimming. Theatrical applications may also include control of spot size and color. Lighting modules may also be controlled as a group or individually. Different groups of lights may be defined within the remote, and lights may be members of multiple groups.

Abstract: A track mounting system for supporting equipment, such as a dental light, includes a pan-shaped carriage which is suspended from the track mounting system and to which the light or other equipment is attached. The track mounting system includes a pair of spaced, parallel tracks which are engaged by rollers rotatably mounted on inner walls of the carriage. At least one of the rollers is formed from a relatively hard material and is concave to mate with the complementary surface on one of the tracks to provide resistance against side loads. Other rollers are formed from a relatively soft material and are convex to provide a light frictional resistance to movement of the carriage along the tracks that inhibits drift, over-travel and other inadvertent movement of the carriage, while reducing noise.

Abstract: A light tilting apparatus usable with an extendable light. In one embodiment, a mobile lighting system includes a tiltable light assembly mounted to an extendable tower on a trailer. The tiltable light assembly includes one or more lights fixedly mounted to a tilting member pivotably mounted to the extendable tower. A linkage operably connected to the tilting member at one end has a catch on a distal end. A linkage regulator attached to the extendable tower has a guide portion for the linkage to pass through as the extendable tower is extended and retracted. The linkage regulator is configured to engage the catch on the distal end of the linkage when the extendable tower reaches a preselected extension position restricting further motion of the linkage in the direction of tower extension. The linkage causes the tilting member to pivot and rotate the lights downward with continued extension of the extendable tower past the preselected extension position.
