Abstract: A dead front actuating assembly actuates a device in standard ambient light conditions. The dead front actuating assembly includes a housing defining a periphery and an interior volume. A cover plate is fixedly secured to the housing at the periphery. The cover plate defines an inboard surface facing the interior volume and an outboard surface opposite the inboard surface. The outboard surface is opaque in standard ambient light conditions. The dead front actuating assembly also includes a switch that is operatively connected to the inboard surface of the cover plate at a defined location for toggling the device between on and off conditions. Also included is a presence sensor identifying when an operator is disposed adjacent the cover plate. A back light inside the housing illuminates the cover plate such that light passes through the cover plate and out the outboard surface to illuminate the switch.

  • Patent number: 7628512
Abstract: A lighting fixture includes a heat sink having a first mounting portion attached to a housing. A first circuit board containing LEDs is mounted to a first side of a second mounting portion of the heat sink. A second circuit board include an LED control circuit is mounted to a second side of the second mounting portion. A multi-layer circuit board includes a heat-dissipating core bonded to first and second dielectric substrates, which are bonded to first and second electrically conductive layers. An electrical conductor extends through a through-hole in the board to electrically connect the first and second conductive layers. An electrical insulator inside the through-hole electrically isolates the core from the conductor. A transparent cover is shaped to cause downwardly projecting light rays emitted from the LEDs to be refracted less than upwardly projecting light rays. The cover also includes vertically extending projections for horizontally refracting light.

  • Patent number: 7611258
Abstract: An outdoor design panel that combines a number of plats and fluorescent pigments to create a displayed design, with an option to incorporate numerous lighting elements within the design itself. The design panel is pre-fabricated and can optionally be highlighted with a number of lighting elements incorporated into the panel. The lighting elements are powered by a battery linked to a solar cell, with a lighting sensor being utilized in between the battery and the lighting elements to control the flow of power to the lighting elements. The lighting sensor acts as a switch and will allow power to flow in between the battery and the lighting elements once the external light level falls below a certain level.

  • Patent number: 7607798
Abstract: A lighting unit having a light generation section, a light analysis section, a controller, and a first communication interface is disclosed. The light generation section and the light analysis section are housed in a housing having a transparent window. The light generating section includes a plurality of groups of LEDs, each group emitting light of a different spectrum than the other groups. The light analysis section generates intensity signals related to the intensity of light generated by each of the groups and the intensity of light originating from a location outside the housing. The controller adjusts a current through each of the LEDs in response to the intensity signals. The first communication interface is utilized by the controller to communicate with a device external to the lighting unit for receiving commands during the operation of the lighting unit.

Abstract: A light fixture (100) comprises a base (101) and at least a first arm (102) having a first end (103) that couples to this base. A housing (105) then couples to the second end (203) of this first arm and can serve to house both a light source (901) (such that emanated light will tend to be directed towards a primary area of coverage) and an animate object detector (902) (such that the latter will be aimed towards, and will tend to be sensitive to, objects that move within the primary area of coverage). By one approach, this arm couples to the base and/or the housing in a manner that permits an end user to adjust a position of the housing with respect to the base without requiring any hand tools. • Patent number: 7592754
Abstract: An LED drive circuit includes a current source configured to electrically drive an LED. In one configuration, the current source forms part of an integrated circuit that requires a relatively small amount of voltage for operation. As such, separate voltage sources can be electrically coupled to the LED and integrated circuit respectively. For example, a first voltage source provides a source voltage to the LED that is sufficient to allow operation the LED and a second voltage source provides a source voltage to the integrated circuit that is sufficient to allow operation of the integrated circuit but that is less than a voltage operable to activate the LED. As a result, a low voltage source can be used as a supply for all of the circuitry associated with the integrated circuit, including the current source, without sacrificing the supply voltage used to drive the LED.
