Fluid Medium Type Patents (Class 362/318)
  • Patent number: 4170035
Abstract: A display lamp which includes a container and a source of light and heat mounted adjacent to the container, and, within the container, a liquid in which are suspended a number of insoluble reflecting flakes, the container being substantially surrounded by an envelope at least part of which is translucent.

  • Patent number: 4103322
Abstract: A device for illuminating fish tanks or the like in which a source of light positioned over the fish tank is surrounded with light absorbent material to prevent unwanted reflection or refractions and is provided with a filter which specifies the color of the illuminating light. The fish tank water is illuminated with a single color light free of unwanted refractions or reflections to muddy the color. The device includes a masking cylinder housing the light which prevents all unwanted reflections and refractions and filter cylinder movable with respect to the masking cylinder to provide a variety of color possibilities.

  • Patent number: 4075472
Abstract: A reflector apparatus for reflecting light produced by a flash light apparatus such as a flash bulb, an electronic flash apparatus or the like, comprises a sealable container capable of tightly containing a gas therein. The container is in the form of a substantially spherical configuration when inflated and is made of a soft and flexible material, a half portion of which is transparent while the other half portion reflects light. The light rays from the flash apparatus are transmitted through the transparent portion and are reflected by the reflecting portion toward an object to be illuminated.

  • Patent number: 4054812
Abstract: A high pressure xenon arc illuminator bulb having a sapphire window generates a broad band of ultraviolet, visible and infrared radiation extending from about 180 nanometers to about 2000 nanometers. The emitted radiation in the range from about 180 to about 200 nanometers, in passing through the oxygen in the air, causes the molecules of oxygen in the form O.sub.2 to recombine to produce ozone, O.sub.3. Ozone is toxic. In the invention, a lens barrel, which holds a sapphire condensing lens, is joined to the xenon arc illuminator bulb with a lighttight and also hermetic connection. Thus, the condensing lens is optically rigid with the illuminator bulb and the ozone formed within the lens barrel is not released to the ambient environment, even though its local concentration within the lens barrel becomes high. Furthermore, the ozone confined within the lens barrel acts as an absorption filter for all of the wavelengths in the 180 to 200 nanometer band which are capable of producing ozone.
