Radial slots in a front cone flange combined with either a shutter gate with radial grooves or a nut retainer tab makes it possible to variably adjust and lock the light masking shutters.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a lighting apparatus or a shutter assembly for a lighting apparatus comprising: a light path for passage of light emanating from a lamp, at least one shutter plate 130-133 moveable into a position external to or at least partially across the light path, and a rotatable shutter lock 180 being rotatable to directly or indirectly generate a friction force on the shutter plate 130-133, wherein the friction force generated on the shutter plate 130-133 is dependent on the rotational position of the shutter lock 180 and in at least one rotational position there is sufficient frictional force to retain the shutter plate 130-133 in the position external to or across the light path.

    Abstract: An illumination obscurement device for controlling the obscurement of illumination from a light source which is optimized for use with a rectangular, arrayed, selective reflection device. In a preferred embodiment, a rotatable shutter with three positions is placed between a light source and a DMD. The first position of the shutter is a mask, preferably an out of focus circle. This out of focus circle creates a circular mask and changes any unwanted dim reflection to a circular shape. The second position of the shutter is completely open, allowing substantially all the light to pass. The third position of the shutter is completely closed, blocking substantially all the light from passing. By controlling the penumbra illumination surrounding the desired illumination, DMDs can be used in illumination devices without creating undesirable rectangular penumbras.
