Abstract: An adjustable utility light for suspension from an object has a nominal width and lateral edges, and both an elongate hollow member with opposing open ends and an axis. A pair of generally elongate gripping members is also present, each with a free gripping end and a hollow member engaging end. The gripping members are slidably and rotatably mounted with regard to associated open ends of the hollow member so as to be able to change the axial distance between the gripping members. An elongate biasing member extends through the hollow member and is attached at opposite ends to the gripping member. The biasing member is generally under tension so as to urge the gripping members towards each other, minimizing the distance between them. It is stretchable upon separation along the axis of the gripping members against its own biasing forces. The lamp may be pivoted or rotated both horizontally and vertically with respect to the base frame to adjust the direction of the light from the lamp. The lamp assembly may also be removed from the base frame to provide an overhead light source if desired.

  • Patent number: 4704668
Abstract: A sleeve type lamp stabilizer that is made so that it will fit over a lamp socket, to be rigidly held in place with respect to the socket. The stabilizer can be clamped to the socket or rigidly connected to the lamp housing which mounts the socket. The sleeve type stabilizer has pads that support the lamp at the lamp neck. The need for support results from the common practice to provide a small amount of clearance between the lamp socket and the mating base of the lamp to insure that the lamp will not corrode in place or otherwise become stuck in its socket when it is time to replace the lamp with present large lamps. This slight amount of play in the socket translates into a large amount of movement at the opposite end of the lamp and thus the independent support stabilizes the lamp, and prevents mechanical vibrations from prematurely causing lamp failure.

Abstract: An articulated operating theatre lamp has a handle (19, 20) by means of which it can be moved about several axes. The constructional elements which are movable relative to one another (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) are normally secured relative to one another by means of mechanically applied but electrically releasable brakes (18) arranged in the vicinity of their hinged connections (17). Electrical switch means 21 are provided on the handle (19, 20), which actuate the electrical release mechanism (22) for the brakes (18) on being contacted by an operator and thus temporarily release the brakes during handling of the lamp (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 4513359
Abstract: A lamp stabilizer adapted to be mounted to the housing of a light fixture includes a mounting bracket secured to the light fixture and an elongated rigid rod slidably mounted for axial movement with respect to the bracket. The lamp stabilizer has a lamp engaging socket mounted on one end of the rod for selective engagement with an outer end portion of a lamp mounted in the housing. The lamp engaging socket is generally frustum-shaped and has at least one layer of heat insulating and lamp cushioning material secured to an inner side thereof for direct engagement with the outer end portion of the lamp. The lamp engaging socket is positioned with respect to the lamp by moving the rod with respect to the mounting bracket. A friction clip is selectively securable along the axial length of the rod and when secured thereto, engages the mounting bracket to restrict movement of the rod in direction away from the lamp.
