  • Patent number: 11221038
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatuses for creating hypermobile joints; hypermobile magnetic joints; super hypermobile joints; and super hypermobile, super magnetic joints. Joints can be simple magnetic, where one ferromagnetic element is a permanent magnet and the other is not; or super magnetic, where both are permanent magnets. Super hypermobile magnetic joints are created with two enclosures, joined magnetically and free to rotate around the other, with ferromagnetic elements inside the enclosures magnetized. As the moments of the magnetic domains of the enclosed magnetized ferromagnetic elements align parallel to each other inside each enclosure, as well as to the moments of the magnetic domains of the other magnetized ferromagnetic elements inside the other enclosure, the resulting magnetic attraction/attachment brings the enclosures together completing the joint. The frictional forces on the surfaces of the enclosures maintains the positions of the enclosures, and thus the joint.

  • Patent number: 9709258
Abstract: A lighting system including modules containing LEDs or other electroluminescent devices and loosely constrained magnetic structures at least partially contained within cavities in the module substrate that are connected to fixtures under magnetic force. The loosely constrained magnetic structures accommodate mechanical variations in the system and provide a method to connect modules mechanically, electrically and thermally to different fixtures or positions in fixtures without tools. The relatively short distance separating magnetic structures provides high connection forces with the use of relatively small magnets. Magnets and electrical contacts are not located directly between the LED subassembly and the fixture, which provides higher thermal conductivity pathways to remove heat from the LEDs. Biasing members may be used to increase thermal contact. Magnetic structures may, but are not required, to conduct electricity.

Abstract: A magnetic pivot connector structure is provided. The structure comprises a magnetic socket and a magnetic plug. The magnetic socket includes negative and positive grooves at the center. A magnet is disposed on one side of the positive and negative grooves. The positive and negative grooves are connected electrically to a first member. The magnetic plug comprises positive and negative shafts disposed aside. An iron member is disposed on one side of the positive and negative shafts. The positive and negative shafts are connected electrically to a second member. When the magnetic plug is connected electrically to the magnetic socket. The magnet attracts the iron member, which connects electrically the first and second members. Then the positive shaft is used as the axle center and the negative shaft rotates around the negative groove. Thereby, the first and second members are connected pivotally and rotate with respect to each other.

Abstract: Apparatus for mounting accessories to guns. Some embodiments provide gun mounts each including a body and a magnet to magnetically couple the mount to the gun. The bodies are shaped and dimensioned to mechanically retain the accessories (which can be flash lights). The magnets are mechanically coupled to the bodies (and can be an integral portion thereof) and cause magnetic fields. Given the shapes and dimensions of the bodies, the positions of the magnets relative to the bodies and relative to the barrels of the guns when the bodies abut the barrels, the magnetic field strengths are within a range sufficient to releasably and magnetically couple the magnets and the barrels. In some embodiments the magnetic field strengths are sufficient to limit the ranges of motion of the mounts relative to the guns during the shock created by firing the gun.

The heat sink, light source, and power source are positioned in a cavity defined by an enclosure and an optic which present a puck-like shape when assembled. A magnetic attachment member installed in the cavity of the enclosure magnetically binds the lighting device to a ferromagnetic material external to the lighting device. The power source receives an AC input voltage through inductive and/or conductive coupling, and converts the voltage to DC to support light-emitting diodes (LEDs). A controller may operate the light source based on instructions transmitted by a beam adjustment device and/or an occupancy sensor. A method aspect of the invention details steps for assembling the lighting device.
