Abstract: A vehicle headlight can ensure a driver's visibility even when the headlight projects low-beam, and at the same time, can promote awareness of pedestrians and the like in front of and around the vehicle. A vehicle headlight installed in a vehicle can include a plurality of lamp modules each configured to project light in front of the vehicle, and a control unit configured to control the plurality of lamp modules to be turned on and off so that a lighting pattern constituted by the lamp module or lamp modules being turned on is varied and at least one lamp module out of the plurality of lamp modules is configured to form a predetermined light distribution for ensuring a driver's visibility when being turned on.
Abstract: A headlight case, that houses a light body, is made small in size. The light body includes a reflector, and a lens attached to the reflector. The light body is pivotally supported in the headlight case by bolts extending through a ring member extending around the light body, so that an aiming operation can be performed. The ring member is connected to the light body behind the lens, and is locked to the headlight case at a position spaced away from an open edge thereof. A ring body of the ring member has an outer shape smaller than a maximum outer shape of the light body. A rim, to be fitted around the open end of the headlight case, has a lead that extends toward a position spaced away from the open end of the headlight case, to be fitted into a concave part of the headlight case.
Abstract: A vehicle lighting apparatus emits a spot light distribution pattern to be combined with a low-beam light distribution pattern emitted from a headlamp. The vehicle lighting apparatus includes a semiconductor light source formed with a rectangular light emitting element; and a lens that projects light from the rectangular light emitting element under an upper horizontal cutoff line of the low-beam light distribution pattern, as the spot light distribution pattern of a substantially rectangular shape.
Abstract: A straw holder for supporting a drinking straw in the mouth of a bottle is presented. The holder includes a straw support portion dimensioned for placement across the mouth of a bottle. The straw support portion includes an aperture designed to receive a straw therethrough and to vertically support the straw with respect to the support portion. The holder further includes a bottle retaining portion that includes at least one turn extending around the retaining portion. The at least one turn includes a first turn having an end attached to the straw support portion.
Abstract: The directions of optical axes of headlights of a vehicle are adjusted based on a steering angle by switching filters of different response speed characteristics. The filters are provided with hystereses along boundaries neighboring to each other. The filters are switched depending upon the steering angle and a steering angular velocity to vary the response of swivel control. Therefore, the start of swiveling is not quickened, the filter is not frequently switched, quick motion is suppressed and, hence, smooth motion is realized making it possible to execute a swivel control without causing discomfort.
Abstract: A lamp's optical axis control system for a vehicle includes vehicle speed sensor, steering angle sensor, a circuit for calculating driver's viewpoint and a controller for controlling the optical axis according to the position of the driver's view point. The controller indicates the position of the driver's viewpoint a certain time in advance according to the vehicle speed signal and the steering angle signal. Therefore, the illumination range of the headlamps can timely provides a desirable driver's view point.
Abstract: In an automatic beam-axis adjustment system, a beam-axis of a headlight is gradually swivel to a position determined based on a steering angle of a steering wheel. The beam-axis returns to the initial position and a swivel control is inhibited when a vehicle is at a stop or slowly moving in an intersection, regardless of the steering angle. The swivel control is restarted after the vehicle starts running straight ahead. In other words, the swivel control is not restarted until the vehicle stats running straight ahead even when the speed of the vehicle exceeds a predetermined value. Therefore, the movement of the headlights does not disturb a driver.
Abstract: A vehicle cornering headlamp system in which the direction of illumination of the headlamps of an automobile are made to follow the actual direction of movement of the vehicle, except that the direction of illumination is returned to the straight-ahead direction more quickly than it is moved away therefrom, thereby more accurately following the usual eye movement of the driver. For this purpose, a control signal is generated which has a pulse width indicative of the steering angle but which has a variation characteristic with respect to steering angle which is larger when the steering wheel is turned back towards the straight-ahead position than when the steering wheel is turned away from the straight-ahead position.
Abstract: In a vehicle cornering lamp system, a control signal having a pulse width corresponding to a steering angle is periodically produced, and the amount of position shift between the actual direction of illumination of the headlamps and the target direction of illumination determined from the steering angle is detected according to the control signal thus produced. An electric motor is driven to change the direction of illumination of the headlamps so that the amount of position shift becomes zero, that is, the direction of illumination of the headlamps is linearly changed with the electric motor while following the steering angle.
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling angular position of optical axis of a head lamp assembly for a motor vehicle. An actuator is supplied selectively with the atmospheric pressure and a negative pressure available from an intake conduit of an internal combustion engine thereby to produce corresponding mechanical displacements. A detector for detecting the angular position of the optical axis of the head lamp assembly responds to the mechanical displacements of the actuator to change-over successively the contact states of a plurality of paired electric contacts. A command unit for setting the angular position of the optical axis of the head lamp assembly is provided which includes a plurality of paired electric contacts connected in one-to-one correspondence to the paired contacts of the optical axis position detector. A signal for setting the optical axis of the head lamp assembly is produced in dependence on the contact states of the optical axis position detector.
Abstract: A searchlight apparatus which may be mounted on an aircraft, such as a helicopter. The exemplary apparatus comprises a tubular post which may be mounted in the craft for rotation about its axis. A control rod may pass through the post, extending between a bracket which is hinged to the post at the outer end and a handle at the inner end of the post. This control linkage system allows an operator in a helicopter to aim the lamps on a one-to-one ratio merely by aiming the handle.
