Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling a prosthesis using a brain imager that images a localized portion of the brain are provided according to one embodiment of the invention. The brain imager provides motor cortex activation data by illuminating the motor cortex with near infrared light (NIR) and detecting the spectral changes of the NIR light as passes through the brain. These spectral changes can be correlated with brain activity related to limbic control and may be provided to a neural network, for example, a fuzzy neural network that maps brain activity data to limbic control data. The limbic control data may then be used to control a prosthetic limb. Other embodiments of the invention include fiber optics that provide light to and receive light from the surface of the scalp through hair.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to illumination techniques that include the use of one or more sets of Light Emitting Diodes or LEDs as light sources in a console/module system. The LED light sources can be utilized to produce a light beams with a specified/combination of intensity and spectrum. Of course, embodiments according to the present disclosure are not limited to one intensity/spectrum but multiple combinations of intensity and spectrum can be implemented. Such systems/methods can be implemented with various optical elements including filter, lenses, mirrors, and/or optical fibers. The system is controlled by voice activation, touch screen, footswitch or wireless communication. The LEDs might also be pulsed as a driving system. The optical fiber cable is tethered to the control.

  • Patent number: 7450028
Abstract: A LED operation light, comprising at least two power sources, at least one of which is an adjustable power source, at least two LED units, and measuring and control means. The LED units, which comprise one or more LED components, emit light in response to power received from the power source. The LED components have been arranged to produce emission of light color components of at least two different wavelengths. The measuring means have been arranged to measure light emission of the LED unit and, based on measurement data, to generate control information to be sent to the adjustable power source to adjust the magnitude of power to be supplied to the LED unit. The light emission of the LED component changes as the received power changes, which again results in a change in the correlation between the emitted light color components, and therefore in the color temperature.
