Abstract: A lighting system can include a lightguide having an edge and two major surfaces. The lightguide can be mounted in a frame so that one of the major surfaces faces towards an area to be illuminated, while the other major surface faces away from the area. LEDs can couple light into the lightguide edge, with the coupled light emitting from both major surfaces. Light emitted from the major surface that faces away from the area to be illuminated can be reflected back into the lightguide by a reflective surface. The reflective surface can be separated from the lightguide by an air gap. The air gap can promote internal reflection at the major surface facing away from the area to be illuminated, thereby enhancing homogeneity and output of light towards the area to be illuminated. The frame can include integral wireways, reflector retention clips, and grounding circuitry.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a light emitting diode (LED) light bar structure and a backlight module. The LED light bar structure is provided with a plurality of the light source sets. Each of the light source sets comprises a first LED and a second LED, and the chromaticity of the first LED and the chromaticity of the second LED are complementary. Hence, it is not necessary to consider with the others of the light source sets, so that it can achieve mixing a uniform white light, and the backlight module will not appear the phenomenon of “Mura”. Besides, the material of the LED will not be wasted, and it is easy to control the identical chromaticity between the different backlight modules.

Abstract: In a lighting device of a display device, a plurality of light emitting elements are mounted on a surface of a light source substrate, and the light source substrate is supported by a light source support member by means of a positioning (fixing) structure such as a metal screw. The plurality of light emitting elements are divided into a plurality of blocks, and the emission light amount can be controlled with respect to each of the blocks. Although the head of the screw is exposed on the surface of the light source substrate, the screw is located between adjacent ones of the blocks. Therefore, even though the illuminating light intensity becomes partially discontinuous owing to the presence of the screw, degradation of display quality originating from such discontinuity can be suppressed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an illumination device where a number of light sources are arranged on a heat sink and adapted to emit light in substantially the same direction. The heat sink comprises a first cooling plate and a second cooling plate and a first part of the light sources are arrange on the first cooling plate and a second part of the light sources are arranged on the second cooling plate. The first and second cooling plates are further separated by a distance and a flow channel is defined there between. The flow channel allows cooling fluid to flow between the first cooling plate and the second cooling plate whereby the light sources can be cooled by the cooling fluid. The heat sink comprises further a number of light passages allowing light to propagate from the second cooling plate, towards the first cooling plate and through the first cooling plate. The present invention relates also to a method of cooling light sources emitting light in substantially the same direction.
