Patent number: 11702801Abstract: Roadway resurfacing often requires removal of the existing asphalt from the roadway for reuse. One method of resurfacing a roadway is hot-in-place recycling. Hot-in-place recycling employs substantial heat to remove the oxidized or aged asphalt. This heat further oxidizes the asphalt, creating a material that lacks many desirable properties (e.g., flowability) and flexibility. The disclosure provides compositions and methods that enhance oxidized asphalt, making it more viable for use in resurfacing roadways. Accordingly, compositions comprising recycled asphalt pavement and a rejuvenating agent are disclosed. The compositions combine a rejuvenator and fresh asphalt flux to make a modified asphalt rejuvenator. The modified rejuvenator is then mixed with recycled asphalt pavement to form a rejuvenated asphalt composition.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2020Date of Patent: July 18, 2023Assignee: Owens Corning Intellectual Capital, LLCInventors: Timothy Murphy, Courtney Rice, Jason Guerra

Patent number: 5005980Abstract: A mixing machine operable to receive quantities of waste material and an inert material in separate hoppers for conveyance to a mixing chamber for uniform mixing thereof in prescribed ratios is disclosed wherein each hopper is provided with rearwardly directed augers to pull material away from the opening from the hopper to the mixing chamber. The mixing chamber includes a rotatable flail rotor operable to engage the supplies of materials being fed thereto and effect a mixing thereof prior to being discharged to a mixing auger for final mixing of the two materials before discharge from the machine. Each component of the machine is hydraulically driven to provide independent operation thereof relative to any other component of the machine. An additive hopper is also provided to discharge a selected amount of an additive into the mixing chamber for selective neutralization of the waste material.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1990Date of Patent: April 9, 1991Inventor: Harold M. Patent number: 4997284Abstract: Process and apparatus are provided to distribute specified, premixed quantities of dry mortar mix and cement to a construction site. Bulk bags and a hopper apparatus are transported to the construction site and utilized with a forklift and a mixer device. The hopper apparatus is adjustably assembled and is constructed and arranged to be hand operable to efficiently meter homogeneous predetermined quantities of the mixture out of a discharge chute. The premixed contents in the bulk bags are dumped into the hopper apparatus and discharged in metered quantities into the mixer device. A water dispensing structure is provided to discharge a predetermined volume into the mixer device to form mortar or concrete for use.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1990Date of Patent: March 5, 1991Assignee: E-Con Mega MixInventors: Robert C. Patent number: 4892410Abstract: The method and apparatus for forming an encapsulation or encasement about a structural member that is particularly well suited for use in a marine environment is disclosed. A two component polymer system for protective and repair encapsulation is pumpable in two separate streams to the location of the structural member to be encapsulated. The two reactive components are combined in a static mixer immediately prior to being injected within the surrounding translucent jacket. By combining the reactive components immediately prior to use, premature set up is avoided and the resulting grout may be directed to flow upwardly in the jacket for enhancing final properties. By suitable coloring of the components, visual monitoring of the final mixing and distribution in the translucent form or jacket of the encapsulation material may be monitored. A field test for determining bond strength of the encapsulation polymer to the structural member is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1988Date of Patent: January 9, 1990Assignee: Sandoz Ltd.Inventors: Richard K. Snow, Milton W. Ellisor, Jr.

Patent number: 4795263Abstract: A fine aggregate is stored in a high storage silo and its surface water content is so controlled that its variation may be kept within .+-.1% by weight. The fine aggregate, cement and primary water containing an air entraining agent are mixed in an upper mixer (primary mixing) to prepare mortar. The mortar, a coarse aggregate and secondary water containing a water reducing agent are mixed in a lower mixer (secondary mixing) to produce mixed concrete.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1985Date of Patent: January 3, 1989Assignees: Sumitomo Corporation, Sobu Ready Mix Concrete Co., Ltd.Inventor: Kikuo Kaga

Patent number: 4792234Abstract: The invention comprises a mobile concrete batch plant transportable by highway as a single unit. A cement storage hopper, a cement weigh hopper, and an aggregate weigh hopper are mounted on a standard trailer bed. The cement hopper is loaded to the desired weight from the storage bin, and the aggregate hopper is loaded as desired by a front end loader. A charging conveyor carries discharged cement and aggregate from the hoppers to a point above two oppositely facing mixing drums. The charge is dumped from the conveyor into a load hopper, and from there into a load diverter which directs it into a selected one of the two drums. Water and admixture are added and the mixing drum rotates, mixing the contents and producing concrete. The finished concrete is removed from the drum by reversing the rotation thereof, and is carried from the plant by a discharge conveyor. A second batch may be begun while the first is being mixed or discharged.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1986Date of Patent: December 20, 1988Assignee: Port-A-Pour, Inc.Inventor: Jerome J. Doherty

Patent number: 4705404Abstract: A method as well as an apparatus for processing asphalt mixtures is provided in which broken-up used asphalt is employed and new material is added, utilizing a plurality of burner-heated drum devices, with the used asphalt component and the new material for the asphalt mixture to be processed or produced being processed, i.e. heated in particular, in respectively differently configured drum devices. The used asphalt component is heated separately in a drum mixer operated with parallel flow and the new material component is heated in a drying drum operated with counterflow. After leaving their respective drum devices, the components are conducted into at least one further connected mixer and are further treated there with fresh bitumen and possibly with filler material being added in the mixer. Furthermore, the exhaust gases of the drum mixer are introduced directly into the drying drum and are further heated there, thus combusting the CH.sub.x and CO component contained therein.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1986Date of Patent: November 10, 1987Assignee: Deutsche Asphalt GmbHInventor: Horst Bruggemann
