  • Patent number: 7854543
Abstract: A bone cement mixing and delivery system is provided in which separate components of bone cement are mixed together in a mixer to form a bone cement mixture. The mixer includes a paddle for mixing the components in a mixing chamber and a piston that pushes the mixing cement into an attached delivery device. The system further includes a switch that disconnects the drive assembly that actuates the paddle and piston from its power source. The switch is automatically tripped by a follower that moves upon actuation of the drive assembly. Once the cement is mixed and transferred to the delivery device, the follower trips the switch to automatically deactivate the drive assembly.

  • Patent number: 7837378
Abstract: A mixer-extruder assembly may include a hollow cylindrical chamber and a hopper connected to the chamber. A piston drive shaft having a piston attached at one end may be rotatable about a drive shaft axis that is coaxial with the cylindrical chamber. The piston may have one or more mixer blades coupled thereto and rotatable therewith. The piston may be controllably rotated about the drive shaft axis, after input material received by the hopper is delivered into the chamber, causing the mixer blades to rotate and mix the input material with mixing fluid introduced into the chamber. The piston may also be slidably movable from an upper end of the chamber toward the outlet port of the chamber, so that the mixed input material is extruded through the output port of the chamber.

  • Patent number: 7736049
Abstract: The device for storing, mixing, and dispensing components is provided with means for mixing (6) a first component (27) with a second, liquid component (28) and for dispensing the mixed materials. The individual components (27, 28) are stored in respective containers (2, 3) that are arranged side by side, and a valve assembly (8) is arranged in the transfer area (7) between the outlet area (26) of the container (3) for storing the second, liquid component (28) and the liquid inlet (25) of the container (2) for storing the first component (27). Such a device allows an unproblematic storage of the different components without a local separation of the containers and an efficient mix thereof. This applies especially if the first component is a powder or a granular or porous substance, e.g. bone cement or bone replacement material.

  • Patent number: 7677418
Abstract: A bone cement mixing and delivery system is provided. The system includes a mixing cartridge for receiving liquid and powder components of bone cement, a mixing blade for mixing the components, and a delivery gun for discharging the bone cement from the mixing cartridge. The mixing cartridge comprises a cylinder having proximal and distal ends with a cylinder wall extending between the ends. A piston is locked at the distal end by a locking member that includes a pair of locking tabs protruding into slots in the cylinder wall. With the piston in the locked position, the mixing blade mixes the components. After mixing, the cartridge is placed in the delivery gun and release buttons on the locking member are engaged by a release mechanism on the delivery gun to release the piston from the locked position.

  • Patent number: 7651671
Abstract: The present invention is for dissolving a metal complex and a low-pressure additive gas in a supercritical fluid and supplying the same continuously to a reaction vessel, aiming to provide a method and an apparatus for adding a low-pressure gas to a high-pressure supercritical fluid continuously, so that a gas which should be handled with care, such as a combustible gas, can be added to a supercritical fluid without compression. The method for continuously adding a low-pressure gas to a supercritical fluid comprises supplying a reactant gas to a supercritical fluid or a subcritical fluid by repeating, in an alternate manner, a step of storing a reactant gas midway through a piping in a low-pressure state and a step of carrying the reactant gas toward a reaction vessel with the supercritical fluid or the subcritical fluid, so that the reactant gas is continuously charged in the reaction vessel.

  • Patent number: 7563018
Abstract: The present invention relates to a mixing device for producing bone cement by mixing components intended therefor, wherein the bone cement (3) is made by mixing the components (4, 5) under a vacuum in a mixing space (6), and wherein the mixing space (6) includes at least one piston (9) which can be brought to remain in a start position (A) during mixing and which is releasable therefrom after mixing, whereby said piston (9) will be sucked into the mixing space (6) by being affected by the vacuum prevailing therein. At least one throttle device (20) is provided for generating a pressure drop between the air pressure in the surroundings and the piston (9) for preventing full power affection thereof by said air pressure. At a method in connection with said device, the piston (9) is brought to remain in the start position (A) during mixing of the components (4, 5) by air-tight isolation thereof from the surroundings. The piston (9) can be released from the start position (A) by opening the air-tight isolation.
