  • Patent number: 7350963
Abstract: A blender jar defines a geometry to impart vertical movement to material being processed in the blender jar, and, alternatively or in combination, improves the horizontal movement to the blended material. By configuring one or more agitators on the floor of a jar, laminar flow or symmetric flow of material around the jar is disrupted. The material is forced in an upward direction in the jar and, therefore, into more frequent contact with the cutter blades rotating in the jar.

Abstract: A vertical agricultural mixer employs a pair of vertical mixing augers in combination with a pair of asymmetrical, half pyramid-shaped transfer protrusions adjacently disposed along each opposed sidewall between the augers in a mixing tub. The transfer protrusions are differently shaped with tips which are vertically spaced from each other along a vertical line on each sidewall. The transfer protrusions create a pressure gradient to allow material mixed in the tub to transfer to an adjacent mixing auger more efficiently so that mixing action is optimized and dead mixing spots are prevented.

Abstract: Disclosed is an agitator assembly which comprises an agitator and means for mounting the agitator assembly on top of a tank. The agitator comprises a shaft, a propeller fixed to one end of the shaft, and means for rotating the shaft to provide an axial discharge from the propeller of at least 4.0 m/sec with a flow equivalent of at least 0.2 tank volumes/minute. The agitator is mounted on top of the tank so that the shaft enters the tank at an angle a to the longitudinal axis of the tank of between about 30 and about 60 degrees and at an angle &bgr; to the transverse vertical axis of the tank of less than about 50 degrees. Also disclosed is a method of shipping solids that are soluble in a solvent. The solids are placed in a tank on which the agitator assembly has been mounted. The quantity of solids placed in the tank exceeds the amount that will dissolve when the tank is filled with the solvent. The tank is transported to the location where the solids are to be removed from the tank.

Abstract: The dynamic mixer comprises a rotor housing including a cover and a rotatable mixing rotor, the rotor housing cover being provided with inlets for the components to be mixed. For a good premixing of the components, the mixing rotor is provided near the inlets with a rotor disk whose surface is provided on the inlet side with carriers forming chamber sections for carrying along the components to be mixed, and whose circumference is provided with annular gaps through which the components pass to the rear side of the rotor disk and to the rotor hub which comprises mixing elements. Due to the fact that the components are carried along and transferred to the rear side of the rotor disk only at the circumference thereof, the components are metered and premixed, thereby allowing a substantial improvement of the mixing quality and performance.

Abstract: Process and device for the mixing of suspensions with possibly different natures and/or compositions in the stable section of a paper machine. In the process, a suspension, particularly of the backwater of the paper machine, is piped in a mixing tube with the main flow direction in the longitudinal direction of the tube, and additional suspensions, with possibly different solid content, are injected. In the device, a mixing device and piping carry the suspension in the stable section of a paper or cardboard machine and blend suspensions with a higher solid content into a first suspension with little or no solid content. The mixing device and piping include a tube, at least one inlet for the first suspension, a plurality of feeds for the higher solid content suspensions to be admixed, and one outlet for the blended suspension, with a new solid content, arranged downstream from a bend in the tube.

Abstract: The invention involves a device for making chewing gum with a mixer, in which gum base is kneaded and mixed with flavoring and/or coloring agents. Whereas this has been done until now using mixers that operate essentially in batches, now it is proposed according to the invention to use as a mixer a high-speed shearing mixer that is flowed through in the axial direction, in which a many ring-shaped stator parts are arranged projecting radially to the inside on the inner wall of an essentially cylinder-shaped housing, with which the radial outside ends of circumferential mixing blades mesh to form grinding gaps. This device has the advantage that it is small, cost-effective and continuously productive.
