  • Patent number: 5495796
Abstract: Spiny pads are centrifugally propelled in a spiralling-outward pathway by a plurality of fingers that swing around a cylindrical chamber from a concentric shaft. The interior surface of the chamber is partially lined with spine shearers such as a rasp, so that the pads scrape against the rasp and thereby are despined. Spine pieces leave the chamber through small perforations in the chamber wall.

  • Patent number: 5005980
Abstract: A mixing machine operable to receive quantities of waste material and an inert material in separate hoppers for conveyance to a mixing chamber for uniform mixing thereof in prescribed ratios is disclosed wherein each hopper is provided with rearwardly directed augers to pull material away from the opening from the hopper to the mixing chamber. The mixing chamber includes a rotatable flail rotor operable to engage the supplies of materials being fed thereto and effect a mixing thereof prior to being discharged to a mixing auger for final mixing of the two materials before discharge from the machine. Each component of the machine is hydraulically driven to provide independent operation thereof relative to any other component of the machine. An additive hopper is also provided to discharge a selected amount of an additive into the mixing chamber for selective neutralization of the waste material.

  • Patent number: 4957404
Abstract: A flail chain unloader for discharging particulate material from a lower output of an upright storage vessel includes a rotating shaft extending upwardly of the central portion of the vessel above the outlet and flail chains secured to the shaft at different levels thereon to rotate with the shaft and loosen the particulate materials in the vessel to flow downwardly for discharge through the lower outlet. One or more upper flail chains are secured adjacent an upper level portion of the shaft and have outer ends movable in a generally circular path closely adjacent the inside wall surface of the vessel for loosening the material adjacent the vessel wall. At least one set of intermediate flail chains of a relatively short length is provided at spaced apart lower levels below the upper flail chains in order to dig out the material in the central portion of the vessel around the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4724632
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing appendages from seeds are described. The apparatus includes a chamber to contain the seed to be threshed. Mounted rotatively in the chamber is at least one filament spool means which, upon rotation, causes filament to be paid out and thresh the seed. Means are attached to the chamber to draw a gaseous medium through the chamber to suspend the seed with appendages in the threshing zone. After the appendages are removed, the appendage-free seed is discharged from the cylinder. The invention finds particular use in the threshing of seeds armed with appendages that are difficult or impossible to remove with existing seed threshing equipment.

  • Patent number: 4060587
Abstract: Movable means are provided interiorly of a rotating confined line on a substantially horizontal plane through which reactant fluids, such as liquids and gases, flow and react, whereby inherently to inhibit the adherence of particulate matter within the line and effect enhanced contact and intermingling of the liquid maintained in the form of a pool therein with the gas during rotation of the line. The movable means comprise relatively solid objects which bounce and tumble within the line to contact the interior of the line. The relatively solid objects, which may be in the form of chains, wires, cables or any other solid media whether consisting of separate or joined components, also function to prevent the liquid, maintained in the pool and/or passing through the line from assuming a dry or precipitate state as it is splashed or otherwise distributed about the entire interior periphery of the line.
