  • Patent number: 4239396
Abstract: A high capacity blender has been devised which is adaptable for use in achieving the proper blend of liquid-to-liquid or liquid-to-solid constituents making up a gel composition for use in fracturing oil and gas well formations in which a high speed impeller is mounted for rotation concentrically within an outer casing and has a solids inlet which is isolated from the liquid inlet. A series of liquid inlet apertures are disposed in outer concentric surrounding relation to the impeller, and impeller vanes within the impellers are operative to impart a centrifugal force to solids introduced therein whereby to direct the solids and materials radially and outwardly under considerable force into the liquid stream which is directed axially along the inner wall of a mixing chamber.

  • Patent number: 4231664
Abstract: The specification discloses a method and apparatus for combining high speed horizontal and high speed vertical continuous mixing of sand and binder ingredients for mold making purposes. Sand supplied by a hopper assembly and liquid binder ingredients supplied by injection assemblies are fed into the rearward ends of a pair of side-by-side, horizontally extending cylindrical mixing chambers. They are rapidly mixed and conveyed forwardly by blade assemblies which extend centrally through the horizontal mixing chambers and are rotated at from about 300 rpm to about 1500 rpm. The mixtures are then discharged into a vertically extending cylindrical mixing chamber where they are rapidly mixed by a blade assembly which extends centrally through the vertical mixing chamber and is rotated at from about 300 rpm to about 800 rpm. The final mixture is then discharged from the vertical mixing chamber downwardly into a mold box.

  • Patent number: 4225247
Abstract: A mixing and agitating device specifically designed to mix a dry solid particle material such as cement with a liquid such as water in a high energy manner so as to provide a predetermined degree of hydration above that normally required in the formation of concrete or like cementitious material. A casing defining a container has on the interior thereof a plurality of agitating assemblies rotatably connected within the container and specifically structured and configured to provide a direction of material flow which is concurrently rotational about the axis of rotation of the agitating assemblies as well as along the substantial length of the container between the various spaced apart agitating assemblies so as to define a shear flow of the material resulting in a substantially constant and consistent viscosity and a predetermined degree of hydration, of the initially dry solid particles.

  • Patent number: 4192615
Abstract: A plow for use in a sand mulling machine having a vertically axised bowl formed with a bottom wall and a cylindrical peripheral wall, and a rotatable hub upon which the vertically axised mulling rollers are mounted for mulling material against the peripheral wall. The plow comprises an elongated generally flat plate secured to the hub for rotation therewith, and located adjacent the bowl peripheral wall at a sloped angle relative to the bowl bottom wall. One narrow end of the plow forms a leading edge arranged closely adjacent to the bowl bottom wall and the opposite end of the plow forms a rear or trailing edge which is spaced from the bottom wall. The rear or trailing portion of the plow is formed with a number of elongated, spaced apart, narrow, fingers providing a comb-like structure wherein material to be mulled is picked up along the plow leading edge and moves upwardly along the plow body and upon and through the comb-like structure formed on the trailing edge portion of the plow.

  • Patent number: 4191478
Abstract: A mixing apparatus, e.g. for making concrete, has a triangular base supporting a rotatable or nonrotatable, upwardly open cylindrical drum as well as a main shaft carrying a large sprocket wheel which is linked by a chain with a smaller sprocket wheel on an auxiliary shaft journaled on one of the sides of the triangle. A motor mounted on another side of the base drives the auxiliary shaft via a speed-reducing belt transmission. The main shaft and/or an extension thereof above the drum carries ancillary force-transmitting members such as a reel or a sprocket for the selective operation of external accessories, e.g. a shovel, a hoist, or a force pump. Bulk material in the drum is agitated by a set of relatively rotating blades which may be driven by the main shaft or by a separate motor.

  • Patent number: 4190369
Abstract: Apparatus of the invention includes a dispenser for mixing an discharging layers of the molding material onto the mold forming pattern, and means for producing selectively controlled relative movement between the dispenser and the pattern including a control system for varying the ratio of sand and binder in the mixture being dispensed in accordance with the relative position of the dispenser and the pattern. The apparatus may thus be controlled to provide for selectively variable ratios of sand and binder in accordance with the strength required of the mold at a particular position. The system also provides a selectively variable control of the thickness of each layer of molding material as the mixing head or pattern moves on a three axis coordinate system.

  • Patent number: 4107789
Abstract: The invention employs high volume air to form a cloud of coating material or material to be uniformly dispersed and conveys it to a plenum or common area of the receiving material which is coated. A mixer creates turbulence in the receiving material to turn up new receiving material to be coated. The invention has application to cement mixing, pigment and starch mixing, or even the mixing of atomized or vaporized fluid with on or more receiving materials to establish optimum surface connection for producing stronger cement or utilizing less materials for the same strength or optimizing the dispersion of the cloud introduced material with the receiving material.
