Each of the openings mutually facing by pairs extends across the thickness of the respective plate-shaped element with an own peripheral edge inclined so that each opening narrows, within the section of the respective plate-shaped element, going from the surface of the plate-shaped element facing the other plate-shaped element towards the opposite surface thereof for forming a seat for housing and retaining a gem between the two elements.

The hard decorative member according to the present invention includes a base and a hard decorative coating film layered on the base, in which the hard decorative coating film includes a gray-tone layer including a compound formed by a reaction of an alloy of Ti and one or two or more metals M2 selected from Nb, Ta, and V with a non-metallic element including at least carbon. It is preferable that the amount of carbon contained in the gray-tone layer is 30 to 70 atm % in a total of Ti, the metal M2, and the non-metallic element of 100 atm %.

Accordingly, the residual stresses of the silver metal body are eliminated and the malleability thereof is enhanced. The crystalline grains of the recrystallized surface layer can regrow to present the specific qualities of cubic lattices. The recrystallized surface layer can be further processed by fine electrolysis to enhance the clearness and brilliance of the recrystallized surface layer. The recrystallized surface layer can be further electroplated with a colored electroplating material to form a colorful electroplated layer.
