At least one of the plurality of underlayers is a soft magnetic underlayer formed by an alloy having a hexagonal close packed (hcp) structure and including Co metal or Co as its main component, with a (11•0) plane oriented parallel to a surface of the substrate.

Abstract: The invention relates to a PVR system (100) making choices to store or remove certain programs in or from a memory (102) in order to create space for new programs to be stored in the memory. The choices are arranged in a list (201) of programs to be stored and a list (211) of programs to be erased from the memory. After these lists have been generated by the system (100), they are presented to the user for the purpose of confirmation and possible modifications. In this way, the user is aware of the choices made by the system and the method according to the invention enables him to confirm multiple choices by the system in one action. The facsimile machines (1) store quick-dial telephone numbers in RAM (11), and operating programs in flash memory (13). The computer (3) sends replacement data for the quick-dial telephone numbers and the operating programs of the facsimile machines (1) to the facsimile machines (1) over the LAN (2). The facsimile machines that receive the replacement data then overwrite the telephone numbers and operating programs with the replacement data.

Abstract: An apparatus marks files within a content archive. The content archive contains a database that has a plurality of content files. The content archive also contains a plurality of entries or records. Each of the entries corresponds to a distinct one of the plurality of content files. Each of the entries also includes a played field that is automatically set when the corresponding content file has been played. The content archive also includes a writing module that is configured to record a new content file to the content archive and, if insufficient space is available, to overwrite a content file for which the played fields are set. According to one aspect, the plurality of entries also includes an entry corresponding to an overwritten content file previously contained within the database that is no longer contained within the database. The database may contain references to content no longer in the database.
