When recording the music data, table of contents (TOC) information of each CD is read out of the CD and recorded in the HDD, and simultaneously sent to a personal computer via a connecting line. A CD album information database is provided in the form of a CD-ROM to the personal computer. In the personal computer, which one of CDs recorded in the database on the CD-ROM corresponds to the relevant CD is searched based on the total playing time and the time information of each track which are contained in the TOC information sent to the personal computer. A search result is sent back to the music server.

A central processor is connected to the compact disk player, the hard drive and associated memory, a second memory, display, audio output and buttons or knobs. Turning knobs or pushing buttons directs signals to the central processor and enables a user to operate the compact disk player, store in the second memory audio selections from a disk placed in the compact disk player, select and create playlists, and output audio selections contained in the second memory in an order according to a selected playlist. A keyboard communicates with the player through infrared signals.

Abstract: A CD-R recorder capable of re-recording a series of musical tunes from a phonograph record to a CD-R, with addresses assigned to the respective tunes for ease of accessing later. Included is a random-access memory on which there are to be stored by the user a series of incremental addresses to be assigned to the successive tunes recorded, and the expected playing times of the tunes ascertained previously, as from the record jacket or by pre-recording of the tunes. The actual playing time of each tune being recorded is measured and compared with the expected playing time of that tune on the RAM. Abstract: A recording/playback apparatus is characterized in that management information for managing data recorded on a recording medium is provided in a format allowing tracks to be bundled into groups and managed in group units in addition to management of the data in track units. By referring to this management information, tracks from a source can be grouped automatically during a variety of recording and playback operations including mainly a search for the beginning of each group, and various kinds of editing work can be done in group units. The recording/playback apparatus is capable of carrying edit processing such as concatenation, division, batch deletion and a move operation on a specified group recorded on a disc used for recording groups each consisting of a plurality of programs.
