Abstract: A recording/reproducing device and a recording/reproducing method for dubbing a program reproduced from a first recording medium into a second recording medium having at least two recording regions and into a third recording medium in synchronism. The recording region may be changed over on the second recording medium. In this case, after the change-over of the recording region of said second recording medium has been completed, from the head of the program reproduced from the first recording medium when the change-over of the recording region occurred is dubbed into the second recording medium and into the third recording medium, and the program that is incompletely recorded into the third recording medium is erased after the dubbing. Therefore, the program that had been recorded during the change-over of the recording region of the second recording medium is completely recorded, and the program is further completely recorded into the third recording medium.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for preventing unauthorized replication of a digital data file. A plurality of second data set samples are substituted for a plurality of user data samples in a user data sequence to generate a combined data set. Error correction codes are calculated to correct errors in the combined data set. Uncorrectable errors are then intentionally written to the error correction codes corresponding to the second data set samples so that, during playback, the readback system conceals the corresponding second data set samples. An unauthorized copy of the digital data file will not include the uncorrectable errors; thus, the same readback system will output both the user data samples and the second data set samples, with the second data set samples interfering with the integrity of the user data samples.

Abstract: In a memory control device for controlling the write-in/read-out operation for a memory of a recording/reproducing apparatus, a sector data storing area and an additive area are set in each sector-based data storing area in the memory. A prescribed data is stored in the additive area associated with the sector-based data stored in the sector data storing areas. The access addresses for the additive area are generated on the basis of the sector count value when the sector data write-in or read-out is carried out in the memory. The access addresses are calculated by the memory control device.

Abstract: In a multimedia copy control system, digital contents data stored in the digital data recording medium includes a first copy control information of a digital format and a second copy control information of an analog embedded format, and encryption of the reproduction output data from the recording medium is decrypted and judged for each digital contents unit under reproduction, and even in the case of detecting no first copy control information, the reproduction of the digital contents data is controlled based on the second copy control information.

Abstract: Partial information such as the beginning data of each of chapters is read from a CD and written in a HDD 10 at a higher speed than that in a normal reproduction while the normal reproduction is carried out using a buffer memory 8. After the chapters relative to all CDs have been written in the HDD 10, reproduction is carried out in switching between the information remaining in the HDD 10 and the information included in the CD. This configuration makes it unnecessary to record the information beforehand, and permits an unreproduciable blank in reproduction to be filled with audio information during track search or CD change while the reproduction is carried out normally.

Abstract: A jack is provided to be inserted with a cable dedicated to analog transmission, a cable dedicated to digital transmission, and a cable dedicated to analog and digital transmissions. A recording device is also provided to have the jack and a cable identifying unit so that the signal to be recorded is automatically switched according to the transmitted digital signal and the cable identified result given by the cable identifying unit.

Abstract: A dubbing apparatus for inhibiting high-speed dubbing for a predetermined time period if, at a time of high-speed dubbing of a program from a first storage medium onto a second storage medium, the first storage medium is found to have been subjected to high-speed dubbing earlier by another predetermined time period. The apparatus is arranged to indicate that high-speed dubbing is being inhibited while displaying a waiting time to be observed before high-speed dubbing is again permitted.

Abstract: A dubbing system for inhibiting, for a predetermined length of time, a high-speed dubbing operation for a program for which a high-speed dubbing operation was executed within the predetermined length of time. When the power supply to a volatile memory in which high-speed dubbing permission and inhibition information for each program is stored is reset, the high-speed dubbing immediately after the restarting of the power supply to this volatile memory is forcibly inhibited for the predetermined length of time.
