  • Patent number: 6879551
Abstract: An apparatus and method for generating a radio frequency (RF) signal and control signals are provided. In an apparatus for generating a radio frequency (RF) signal and control signals in which the current output from a plurality of light receiving elements is converted into voltage signals and the RF signal and the control signals are generated in response to the voltage signals, the apparatus includes an input data processing unit, a digital filter, a servo signal generating unit, a digital RF data generating unit, and a reference comparator. The input data processing unit performs time-sharing sampling on the voltage signals and converts the voltage signals into first digital signals in response to an analog/digital conversion clock signal having a predetermined period and a sequentially applied selection signal. The digital filter filters each of the first digital signals to modify the shape of the waveforms of the first digital signals and outputs the modified waveforms as second digital signals.

Abstract: A signal reproducing method reproduces servo information recorded on a recording medium by use of a head. A current calculation related to a current and an observer calculation related to a position and a velocity of the head are made based on reproduced servo information, and a current value for driving the head is calculated based on the above calculation result. Only computations which require a demodulation result of a present sample are made during a first time after demodulation of the position of the head to a time when the current value is output, and computations which require a demodulation result of a past sample are made during a second time other than the first time.

  • Publication number: 20040213111
Abstract: A method for managing copy protection information of a recording medium is disclosed. Copy protection information for decrypting A/V data encrypted and recorded in a data area of an optical disc such as a CD, a DVD or a BD is recorded in a key locker in the optical disc. A first key value for reading the copy protection information is recorded in a specific area of the optical disc, and a second key value for reading the copy protection information is managed in an optical disc drive or in an application. To reproduce the A/V data in the optical disc, the copy protection information recorded in the key locker is read and decrypted by a combination of a hidden code (having the first key value) recorded in the optical disc and a drive or application key (having the second key value) managed in the optical disc drive or application. This significantly improves the security of the copy protection information.

  • Patent number: 6791920
Abstract: A physical identification data (PID) addressing method using a wobble signal, a wobble address encoding circuit, a method and circuit for detecting the wobble address and a recording medium therefor. A wobble signal obtained by phase modulating address information indicating the physical identification information and a wobble signal having only a simple carrier are recorded in each groove track by way of time division multiplexing. Groove tracks are divided into odd groove tracks and even groove tracks, and a wobble carrier and wobble address information are alternately recorded in each groove track and between odd and even groove tracks such that the wobble address information is not recorded in a section of an even groove track corresponding to a section of an odd groove track in which the wobble address information is recorded. Therefore, interference between wobble signals of adjacent tracks can be removed, and a method and a circuit for detecting a wobble address can be simplified.

  • Publication number: 20040090887
Abstract: Audio data of 20 bits is separated into first data of upper 16 bits and second data of lower 4 bits. EFM modulation data is formed from the first data. A laser beam is on/off controlled in correspondence to the logic level of channel data obtained by NRZI modulating a serial data train. The first data, therefore, is recorded in a manner similar to the case of a compact disc. Each pit is controlled so as to have a displacement in the right/left direction for the track center in accordance with the second data and the deviated pit is formed. When data is recorded by the displacement of the pit, since a high frequency component of a tracking error signal changes upon reproduction, the second data can be extracted from the tracking error signal.
