  • Patent number: 8320223
Abstract: An optical storage apparatus and a method for eliminating a write power transient thereof are provided. The method includes following steps. First, a target voltage level of a write voltage when next time the optical storage apparatus writes data is obtained. Then, a command value is updated by using the target voltage level according to a relationship between the command value and the write voltage. Next, the write voltage of the optical storage apparatus is pre-charged to the target voltage level according to the updated command value. Thereby, the write power transient of the optical storage apparatus can be eliminated.

  • Patent number: 8295136
Abstract: Before new information is recorded on a comparatively deep recording layer in a multilayer optical recording disc, a predetermined target value of a reproduced signal parameter is read from the disc itself or from a separate storage unit, the recorded/unrecorded states of the shallower recording layers are determined, and the target value is corrected on the basis of these states. The correction is based on a predetermined difference in the value of the reproduced signal parameter caused by a difference in the recorded/unrecorded states of the shallower recording layers. The corrected target value is used in calibration of the recording power by means of a test write. This correction of the target value permits reliable recording on a multilayer optical disc without delaying the start of the recording process.

Abstract: The present invention discloses read and write power control methods and system for an optical recording device that records information on an optical disk having read-only areas. The read and write power control methods respectively introduce the steps of determining a specific level of a former power control signal output based on a former power control, and then according to the specific level, setting a predetermined level of a power control signal to induce a present power control for rapidly outputting a proper power of the pick-up head. Accordingly, the level transition of the read/write power control signal can be shortened and even eliminated. An unstable read/write power output for the pick-up head can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 8094535
Abstract: A write type optical disk device with the PRML mode allows accuracy in the trial writing to be improved accompanied with the high speed processing while assuring the readout compatibility. A readout signal that has been A/D converted at timing that interposes the edge has its phase compensated with the even numbered FIR filter. The level at the edge point and the absolute values thereof are accumulated respectively so as to provide a circuit for detecting the edge shift and jitter. Coping with the high speed processing, the edge shift of the readout signal is detected at the position where the edge shift is around zero, thus improving the accuracy in learning of trial writing.

  • Patent number: 8085634
Abstract: An optical disk drive for recording data in accordance with a recording strategy determines a recording strategy of an unknown optical disk through comparatively-simple processing. When a loaded optical disk is an unknown disk, a control section reads a recommended recording strategy from a predetermined area on the loaded optical disk and reads correction parameters corresponding to the loaded optical disk from memory. The control section makes a correction to the read, recommended recording strategy in accordance with the correction parameters, and converts a recording pattern into a recording pulse in accordance with the corrected, recommended recording strategy. After conversion of the recording pattern into the recording pulse, the control section performs OPC and subsequently commences recording of actual data.

  • Patent number: RE43237
Abstract: The system and method is used for CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) control format recording, whereas the existing disk data is recorded under CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) control format recording. When the PUH receives a laser driver signal, it generates a feed signal and a wobble signal. The feed signal is received by the automatic power control; thereafter the automatic power control generates a first control signal used for causing the laser driver to adjust the laser driver signal. After the ATIP decoder receives the wobble signal, the ATIP decoder generates and outputs ATIP decoded data to the CLV value detector. The CLV value detector receives ATIP decoded data and generates a CLV decoded data to the laser power control. The laser power control receives the CLV decoded data and generates a second control signal used for causing the automatic power control to adjust the first control signal.
