Abstract: A method and system for reducing storage requirements and speeding up storage operations by reducing the storage of redundant data includes receiving a request that identifies one or more data objects to which to apply a storage operation. For each data object, the storage system determines if the data object contains data that matches another data object to which the storage operation was previously applied. If the data objects do not match, then the storage system performs the storage operation in a usual manner. However, if the data objects do match, then the storage system may avoid performing the storage operation.

  • Publication number: 20140146651
Abstract: A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium and information processing apparatuses. The medium stores instructions which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform a method including automatically reading first management data from a first recording medium. The first management data identifies tracks of source data recorded on the first recording medium. One of the tracks of source data is automatically identified based on the first management data and second management data, which identifies files of ripped data recorded on a second recording medium. The one of the tracks of source data is absent from the second recording medium. The one of the tracks of source data is automatically transferred to the second recording medium and becomes one of the files of ripped data. The method further includes automatically displaying transferring status of the one of the tracks of source data by a symbolic figure.

Abstract: A storage controller of the present invention makes use of the differences in power rates by time zone and geographic region to control the data storage destination between storage devices of different power consumption. The storage controllers of respective sites each comprise a hard disk and flash memory device, which consume different amounts of power. A schedule manager manages a schedule for controlling the data storage destination utilized by the host. At night, when the power rate is low, data is copied from a hard disk to a flash memory device. In the daytime, when the power rate is high, an access from the host is processed using the data inside the flash memory device. Copying data between remote sites makes it possible to reduce the power costs of the storage system as a whole.

Abstract: The present invention provides a way to use flash memory to keep backup copies of the recently modified data. The recently modified data is stored on a local hard drive and replicated (usually with versions) on a local flash drive when the network connectivity does not exist or not sufficient. As soon as the network connectivity is established the accumulated data is sent to the remote CDP server and the whole space of the flash drive can be reused again. As a result, the data is always replicated: one data copy is stored on the hard drive and the other copy is stored (usually with versions) either on a remote server or a local flash drive. Therefore, the combination of the data on the CDP server and the flash drive can be used to reconstruct the data stored on the hard drive.

Extraction units are used to input various types of information into the system as digital media. Once the information has been extracted, the coordination node and its associated software determine the load on each processing unit in the second stage and based on this and other factors, determine which processing unit will perform the conversion. The output is then stored in storage devices. This approach maximizes system utilization, while being more cost efficient than traditional extraction systems.

  • Publication number: 20080123503
Abstract: A technique for storing or backing up data to a removable media such as a CD or DVD with an enhanced probability that such data can be successfully read or recovered from such media subsequent to the writing/storing/backing-up of the data. This enhanced probability is achieved by storing the data to be copied to the media in multiple different physical locations of the media, such that a plurality of duplicate copies of the data exists on the media. Because there are multiple copies of the data stored on the media, the probability of being able to successfully read at least one good copy of the data is enhanced. For example, if one of the copies cannot be successfully read due to an unrecoverable error, another of the copies can be used to satisfy the read or restore operation. It is also possible to read all copies of the data in response to a read/restore operation, and any differences in the read data will indicate an error with at least one of the copies.

  • Patent number: 7356514
Abstract: A reproduction method and apparatus for reproducing video data and/or audio data from a recordable medium having video data and/or audio data recorded thereon. The video data and/or audio data is generated by superimposing information concerning an attribute of a video signal and/or an audio signal on a signal of digitized video data and/or a signal of digitized audio data. Information concerning a copyright superimposed on the video data and/or audio data is reproduced from the medium, and a type of the medium is identified. Reproduction is stopped in response to a determination that the medium is illegally produced, the determination being based on a combination of the information concerning a copyright which is reproduced and the type of the medium identified.

In the first mode, information in the first recording/reproducing module is reproduced and stored in the buffer memory. In the second mode, the information stored in the buffer memory is recorded in the second recording/reproducing module. The apparatus further includes a temperature detecting module. Depending on the temperature detected by this module, the apparatus changes the movement of the second recording/reproducing module in the first mode and the movement of the first recording/reproducing module in the second mode.

  • Patent number: 7225310
Abstract: A method for successively recording data in a hybrid digital recorder. If an optical disc has no redundant area when a hybrid digital recorder in which an optical disc recorder and an HDD recorder, etc. are integrated in one body records an input data stream on the optical disc, the input data stream is temporarily stored in an HDD. If the optical disc is replaced with a new optical disc, the input data stream is temporarily stored in the HDD, and at the same time the data stream having been temporarily stored in the HDD is read and recorded on the new optical disc at a high speed. If all the data streams temporarily stored in the HDD are read and recorded on the new optical disc, the following data stream is recorded on the new optical disc. Therefore, an external input data stream such as a long-term broadcast program is distributed to a plurality of optical discs, and is stored on the optical discs without generating any lost data.

Abstract: Assuming that copying is permitted only once in broadcasting or the like, there is provided a reproduction apparatus and a reproduction method of digital video signal or audio signal for preventing a pirated edition disk which is produced by recording a signal onto a DVD-R disk (capable of recording the signal once), a DVD-RAM disk (rewritable), or the like and thereafter illegally copying the recorded signal to a DVD-ROM, from being reproduced by an ordinary user's player capable of reproducing DVD-ROM, DVD-R and DVD-RAM disks. Furthermore, in the case where reproduction is inhibited, the cause of the reproduction stoppage is reported correctly. In the case where the copying permission information superimposed on the video signal indicates that copying of only one generation was permitted and the disk is judged to be a DVD-ROM, reproduction is inhibited.

Abstract: The present invention discloses method and system of encoding audio information (e.g., music, speech, etc.) from an analog medium (e.g., vinyl recordings, cassette tapes, etc.) into a compressed, track-oriented, digital format using attribute information and silence detection. The invention generates an analog audio signal by reproducing the audio information recorded on the analog medium, which is recorded on a plurality of discrete analog tracks. The analog audio signal is then sampled to generate a digital audio file (i.e., WAV file). The digital audio file is filtered to correct defects and then separated into a plurality of discrete digital audio tracks. Attribute information, such as track length, is accessed and confirmed by silence detection techniques in order to provide separation.
