Patent number: 9719224Abstract: In a vehicle skid recovery system skid recovery can be accelerated when an automotive vehicle begins to skid as a result of ice accumulation on the road surface. The system can control operation of ice removers (e.g., blades or heaters), which are mounted within the wheel wells forward of the wheel, based on information received from the vehicle's outside temperature sensor and anti-lock braking system (ABS). When the temperature sensor indicates that the outside temperature is below a predetermined temperature and when the anti-lock braking system is activated as a result of detected skid, a controller activates the ice remover in one or more of the wheel wells and, thereby cause the ice remover to remove ice from the road surface forward of the corresponding wheel. Clearing the ice allows the vehicle's tires to gain traction on the road surface and, thereby stops the skid.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2015Date of Patent: August 1, 2017Assignee: International Business Machines CorproationInventors: Gabriel P. Patent number: 8381421Abstract: A frame for mounting an implement to a vehicle having wheels includes elongated frame members for supporting the implement and drive members that are mounted on the elongated frame members. The drive members contact the wheels of the vehicle and receive a driving force from the wheels. The frame is mounted to the vehicle only on the vehicle wheels, and is able to pivot to follow the steering motion of the vehicle wheels.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2010Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: Snap-N-Go-ProductsInventors: Thomas E. Patent number: 6513267Abstract: A snow removing machine equipped with a snow removing plate is disclosed. The snow removing plate is mounted to a front portion of a vehicle body which forms part of the snow removing machine. An operating handle having grip portions is mounted to a rear portion of the vehicle body and obliquely extends upward. A battery, an electric motor and a power transmission mechanism are located below a linear line intersecting between an upper end of the snow removing plate and the grip portion. This causes the battery, the electric motor and the power transmission mechanism to be located below a view line of an operator when he looks at the snow removing plate, avoiding the view line from being disturbed to allow the operator to look at the upper end of the snow removing plate in his working attitude for thereby providing ease of operation of the snow removing machine.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2001Date of Patent: February 4, 2003Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Isao Yoshida, Masakatsu Kono

Patent number: 5974773Abstract: This invention is a mounting system which provides impact protection for crop dividers or row dividers mounted on crop sprayers or harvesters and the like. A divider extends forwardly and downwardly and terminates with a ground engageable shoe. The ground engageable shoe rotates downwardly about a generally horizontal axis relative to the rest of the crop divider assembly. The ground engageable shoe is retained in operating position by gravity and a unique and simple link system. Upon engaging an obstruction the ground engageable shoe rotates downwardly about its axis of rotation thereby activating the link system which lifts the entire divider and ground engageable shoe clear of the obstruction.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1998Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Inventors: Ryan William Rieck, Lindsay Duane Nerbas

Patent number: 5974702Abstract: The present invention relates to an assembly for mounting a plow, such as a snow plow, to a vehicle. The assembly has a linear support member extending from and attached to the front of the vehicle. The linear support member is pivotable with respect to the central longitudinal axis of the vehicle and has the plow attached to it at its remote end. The assembly further includes devices connected to the linear support member for offsetting the plow from the central longitudinal axis of the vehicle so that the plow is positioned in front of the tire path of and ahead of the direction of travel of the vehicle. The offsetting devices preferably comprise two pairs of piston-cylinder units. A first pair is mounted at one end to the front of the vehicle and at a second end to the linear support member. The second pair is connected at one end to the plow and at a second end to the linear support member.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1998Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Inventor: John Barry Donoghue

Patent number: 5862657Abstract: A high clearance agricultural sprayer of the type including a ground wheel mounted on a vertical section of an axle with a hub having a hydraulic motor for driving the ground wheel has an accessory mounted on the ground wheel using an inner bracket attached to the bottom of the vertical section of the axle and an outer bracket attached on the cylindrical surface of the hub. The outer bracket includes a cylindrical sleeve having a shaft on an end face of the sleeve and the bearing surrounding the shaft. The system can be used to support a crop divider carried on the ground wheel by a pair of arms each extending forwardly from their respective brackets for pivotal movement about the axis of the wheel such that the crop divider comprises a pair of frames which extend forwardly each in a respective arm to a front apex where the frame is being covered by plastic cover sheets.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1997Date of Patent: January 26, 1999Assignee: Terraflex AG Service Inc.Inventor: Roger Amedee Saurette

Patent number: 5802746Abstract: A new Vehicle-Mounted Snow Plowing System for improving the driveability of a vehicle in snow by clearing snow away from the intended path of the wheels of the vehicle. The inventive device includes a vehicle mount removably mounted to the front of a vehicle, and a pair of snow deflector assemblies removably mounted to the vehicle mount. The snow deflector assemblies are mounted ahead of and in line with the front wheels of the vehicle. Furthermore, the snow deflector assemblies are moveable between a lowered, operative position and a raised, stowed position.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1997Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Inventor: David L. Miller
