Traffic Shaping Patents (Class 370/230.1)
  • Patent number: 9537757
Abstract: A method is provided for traffic aggregation in a hitless protected packet switched network having source and destination nodes. The method includes enabling a working path and a protecting path between the source and destination nodes. The working path is non-overlapping with respect to the protecting path. The method includes generating, using a processor, internal marker packets at working and protecting input ports of the source nodes. Each market packet represents a respective marker time period. The method includes transmitting the marker packets to working and protecting output ports of the source nodes, by the working and protecting input ports of the source nodes. The method includes selectively aggregating, at each of the working and protecting output ports of the source nodes, hitless traffic sent from different working and protecting inputs ports of the source nodes to provide an aggregated flow there from, responsive to the marker packets.

  • Patent number: 9537779
Abstract: Embodiments are provided herein for a system and methods for real-time video (or other real-time traffic) delivery, e.g., for cellular or wireless networks. The schemes herein address real-time video delivery by a joint design of the radio resource scheduler and the video encoder at the network side, and of the decoder at the users' terminals. The system design reduces frame loss and hence improves user quality of experience. In an embodiment, a radio node detects a frame of a real-time traffic flow. Upon determining that a transmission deadline corresponding to a rate for real-time traffic flow does not support a size of the frame, the transmission deadline is extended according to the size of the frame and a size of a next frame. The frame and the next frame are scheduled for forwarding within the extended transmission deadline.

  • Patent number: 9497246
Abstract: Examples are disclosed for hosting a communication session between a computer device and a destination communication device in an Internet Protocol (IP) based packet data network. A computer device receives multiple concurrent IP packet data streams each representative of the same content but received over corresponding multiple communication links. The original IP packet data stream comes from the communications server. At least one IP packet data stream representative of the original IP packet data stream traverses a communication link through a second communication device working in tandem with the communications server before arriving at the computer device. The computer device determines a highest quality packet for each corresponding packet in the multiple concurrent IP packet data streams. The computer device then creates a bonded IP packet data stream by selecting the highest quality packet for each time slot from among corresponding time slots of the multiple concurrent IP packet data streams.

Abstract: A first Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Internet Protocol (IP) data network transmits data to a second MPLS IP network via a legacy network, which would not otherwise be able to handle the required user network interface (UNI) protocol by configuring the legacy network and its connection computing apparatus (CCA) so that they emulate an MPLS network. When a firt network element (NE) receives a connection (UNI) request from the MPLS network under a UNI protocol, the UNI request is passed to the CCA, which then sets the required connection across the legacy network via a second network element (NE) to an NE of the second network. Once the connection has been set, the CCA instructs the NE to send a return signal to the requesting network indicating that the connection has been successfully set. Data packets may then be transmitted across the network.

Abstract: A first packet of a flow received onto an OpenFlow switch causes a flow entry to be added to a flow table, but the associated action is to perform a TCAM lookup. A request is sent to an OpenFlow controller. A response OpenFlow message indicates an action. The response passes through a special dedicated egress fast-path such that the action is applied and the first packet is injected into the main data output path of the switch. A TCAM entry is also added that indicates the action. A second packet of the flow is then received and a flow table lookup causes a TCAM lookup, which indicates the action. The action is applied to the second packet, the packet is output from the switch, and the lookup table is updated so the flow entry will thereafter directly indicate the action. Subsequent packets of the flow do not involve TCAM lookups.

Abstract: Methods and systems for balancing load among firewall security devices (FSDs) are provided. According to one embodiment, session data, including session entries representing previously established traffic sessions from a particular source to a particular destination and forming an association between the previously established session and a particular FSD, is maintained for each port of a session-aware switching device. When a TCP SYN packet is received, the switching device: (i) reduces its vulnerability to a DoS attack by foregoing installation of a forward session entry for the forward traffic session within the session data until a processed TCP SYN/ACK packet associated with the corresponding reverse traffic session is received; (ii) selects an FSD to associate with the forward traffic session and a corresponding reverse traffic session by performing a load balancing function on the TCP SYN packet; and (iii) causes the TCP SYN packet to be processed by the selected FSD.

Abstract: Methods and systems may provide for determining quality of service (QoS) information for a job associated with an application, and determining a condition prediction for a wireless channel of a mobile platform. Additionally, the job may be scheduled for communication over the wireless channel based at least in part on the QoS information and the condition prediction. In one example, scheduling the job includes imposing a delay in the communication if the condition prediction indicates that a throughput of the wireless channel is below a threshold and the delay complies with a latency constraint of the QoS information.

  • Patent number: 9237107
Abstract: Technologies are generally described for an enhanced Quantized Congestion Notification (QCN) congestion control approach, referred to as Fair QCN (FQCN) for enhancing fairness of multiple flows sharing link capacity in a high bandwidth, low latency data center network. QCN messages may be fed back to flow sources (e.g., servers) which send packets with a sending rate over their share of the bottleneck link capacity. By enabling the flow sources to regulate their data traffic based on the QCN messages from a congestion control component, the queue length at the bottleneck link may converge to an equilibrium queue length rapidly and TCP throughput performance may be enhanced substantially in a TCP incast circumstance.
